Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), a power generation and distribution company owned by the Government of Punjab, has released notification for 3000 Assistant Lineman (ALM) posts. PSPCL is responsible for providing 24x7 uninterrupted quality power supply across Punjab. This is a bumper recruitment with 3000 vacancies — including 1461 backlog posts and 1539 new posts. Who Can Apply?

  • Education: You need to have passed Matriculation (10th Class) or equivalent from a recognized board.
  • Technical Qualification: You must hold an ITI Certificate in Electrician Trade or Wireman Trade issued by NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training) or SCVT (State Council for Vocational Training).
  • Punjabi Language: You must have passed Punjabi at Matriculation level or its equivalent.
  • Important: Both the ITI qualification and Punjabi language requirement must be completed by the last date of application, i.e., 6 May 2026.

Candidates whose results are awaited can also apply, but they must acquire the qualification by the last date of application.

Age Limit

  • You should be between 18 and 37 years old as on 1 January 2026.
  • SC and Backward Class: 5 years relaxation over the maximum age (up to 42 years).
  • Persons with Disability (PwD): 10 years relaxation over the maximum age (up to 47 years).
  • Ex-Servicemen (Self): Service period in Armed Forces is deducted from actual age.
  • Widows, divorced women, and certain other categories of women: Upper age limit is 40 years.
  • Serving PSPCL/PSTCL/Punjab Govt. employees: Relaxation to the extent of service rendered.

Salary

  • Basic pay starts at Rs. 19,900 per month as per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix and PSPCL in-house committee report.
  • During the 3-year probation period: You will get only the minimum admissible pay (Rs. 19,900 basic) plus TA and medical reimbursement. No DA, grade pay, annual increment, or other allowances during probation.
  • After completing probation, you will get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per PSPCL/Punjab Government rules.
  • Training: Selected candidates may undergo 6-month classroom and on-the-job training.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in 3 stages:

  1. Computer-Based Online Test (CBT): The exam has two parts — Part-I is a qualifying Punjabi Language Test (50 MCQs, minimum 50% marks needed to qualify). Part-II covers Technical Questions, Punjabi Language Knowledge, General Knowledge, Reasoning, and Arithmetic (100 MCQs, 1 mark each). Total exam duration is 3 hours (180 minutes) for both parts combined. There is no negative marking. Part-II is bilingual (English/Punjabi) except Punjabi language questions.
  2. Document Verification: Candidates who qualify the online test are called for document checking. You must appear in person with original documents and one set of self-attested photocopies.
  3. Medical Examination: Final stage before appointment.

Minimum qualifying marks in Part-II: General category — 25%, Reserved categories — 20%.

If two candidates score the same marks, the older candidate gets higher merit.

Responsibilities

  • Handle installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power lines and equipment
  • Assist in laying new power lines and erecting poles in assigned areas
  • Monitor power supply lines for faults and carry out restoration work during outages
  • Climb poles and towers to inspect and repair overhead electrical lines
  • Follow safety guidelines while working with high-voltage electrical equipment
  • Keep records of maintenance work, faults reported, and repairs done
  • Respond to consumer complaints related to power supply in the assigned area
  • Work in shifts including emergency duty during storms, floods, and other natural disasters

Exam Pattern

The Computer-Based Online Test (CBT) has two parts with a total duration of 3 hours (180 minutes).

Part-I: Qualifying Punjabi Language Test

  • Punjabi Language: 50 MCQ questions
  • This is a mandatory qualifying test — you need at least 50% marks (25 out of 50) to qualify
  • If you fail Part-I, your Part-II answers will not be evaluated

Part-II: Main Exam (Merit-Based)

  • Technical Questions (Electrician/Wireman trade): 50 questions
  • Punjabi Language Knowledge: 20 questions
  • General Knowledge: 10 questions
  • Reasoning: 10 questions
  • Arithmetic: 10 questions

Total Part-II Questions: 100 MCQs, each carrying 1 mark (Total: 100 marks)

Negative Marking: No negative marking.

Exam Language: Part-II is bilingual (English and Punjabi), except Punjabi language questions which are in Punjabi only.

Minimum Qualifying Marks in Part-II: General category — 25%, Reserved categories — 20%.

Final merit will be based on Part-II marks only. In case of a tie, the older candidate gets higher merit. Normalization may be applied if the exam is held in multiple shifts.
