About This Job

Apply for Counsellor (Male and Female) post in NVS. Psychology Master's with counselling diploma eligible. Salary Rs 44,900/month. Last date: 8 Sep 2026.

NVS Counsellor Recruitment 2026: Overview

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, is engaging Counsellors (Male & Female) on contract through its Regional Office, Bhopal, to work in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas — residential, co-educational schools covering classes VI to XII — across Madhya Pradesh. NVS runs these schools to give talented children from rural areas access to quality education, and student counselling is a core part of that support system. If you hold a psychology postgraduate degree with a counselling diploma, this is a chance to work closely with adolescent students in a residential school setting.

The role calls for close, one-on-one engagement with students, so NVS is looking for counsellors comfortable working in a boarding-school environment, since Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are mostly located in rural district headquarters rather than cities. The number of openings is not fixed in this notification — NVS engages counsellors region-wise as individual schools need them, so the actual count depends on requirement.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Contract basis: This is a contract engagement through the Regional Office, not a permanent NVS post.
  • One region only: NVS will reject your candidature if you apply to more than one region; if this is discovered after engagement, it can be terminated immediately.
  • Document policy: Only documents submitted during the online application will be accepted for verification — you cannot add documents later.
  • Shortlisting: Personal Talk calls may be restricted to roughly three candidates for every vacancy, based on marks awarded for essential and desirable qualifications out of 70 — so a strong certificate profile genuinely improves your chances.
  • Engagement process: The Regional Office decides contract engagement based on your educational qualification, experience and performance in the Personal Talk — there is no written exam.

Application Submission Notes

Apply through the NVS website or directly on the application portal within the application window shown above. Check that you meet every eligibility condition before applying, since the Samiti can reject applications that don't qualify. Beyond the basic eligibility, NVS gives weight to certificate courses in cognitive behaviour therapy, ADHD, behavioural and learning difficulties, and adolescence education — if you've worked with school-going children on emotional and behavioural issues before, mention it clearly, since it affects your shortlisting marks. Candidates called for the Personal Talk must carry their original documents for verification and should be prepared to work at the school's rural location if selected.
