NIT Warangal is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a TTDF/DoT-funded 6G antenna research project in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

NIT Warangal has released a notification for 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position under a project titled "Design and Development of Timed Antenna Array System for Automatic Beam Steering towards User/Target Intended Direction for 6G Communication", funded under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The project is sanctioned for 3 years, and your JRF appointment will run for 2 years or till the project closes, whichever is earlier, with a performance review every year.

As JRF, you will work on analysis, design, simulations, and coding of time-modulated antenna arrays using MATLAB and 3D EM software such as HFSS or CST, along with fabrication and testing of antenna arrays and preparation of milestone reports. You also become eligible to register for a PhD at NIT Warangal under institute rules, which makes this a solid launchpad if you want a research career in antenna and RF systems for 6G.

NIT Warangal is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, located in Telangana. This project falls under the Government of India's Accelerated Research for 6G Ecosystem initiative under the TTDF scheme, which is pushing Indian institutes to build indigenous antenna and RF hardware for next-generation telecom networks. Working here gives you direct exposure to India's 6G hardware roadmap and hands-on lab experience that is hard to get elsewhere as a fresh engineering graduate.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: B.Tech/B.E. (or equivalent) in Electronics and Communication Engineering with at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA at both UG and PG level for General/EWS/OBC-NCL candidates, or 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
  • Alternate route: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10 or 70% marks (General/EWS/OBC-NCL) or 7.0/10 or 65% marks (SC/ST/PwD) — specifically B.Tech/B.E. in ECE plus M.Tech/M.E. in ECE with research experience in Antenna and Microwave, or B.Tech/B.E. in ECE alone.
  • Preferred skills: M.Tech with specialization in Antenna, RF, and Microwaves; knowledge of CST/HFSS, AWR/ADS and MATLAB software. Experience with FPGA implementation will be given preference.

Age Limit

  • You should be up to 30 years old if you belong to the General/EWS category.
  • Age Relaxation: Up to 33 years for OBC-NCL candidates, and up to 35 years for SC/ST/PwD and female candidates.

Salary

  • If you have qualified CSIR-UGC NET or GATE, you get Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA for the first and second year.
  • If you have not qualified NET/GATE, you get Rs. 30,000 per month plus HRA for the first and second year.
  • HRA is paid as per NIT Warangal institute rules.
  • After completing one year as JRF, you may be considered for an upgrade to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) with an enhanced fellowship, based on your performance.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written exam for this JRF position. Selection happens in these steps:

  1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted based on educational qualifications, CGPA/percentage, and relevant research background.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates attend an interview, which may be conducted online or offline. If it is online, you will need a good internet connection. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.

The list of eligible/shortlisted candidates will be announced on the NIT Warangal institute website and candidates will also be informed by email or phone.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and code time-modulated antenna arrays for automatic beam steering in 6G systems

  • Support system-level integration of the beam-steering antenna module
  • Document experimental results and prepare periodic progress/milestone reports for the sponsoring agency (TTDF/DoT)

  • Keep track of the latest research on timed antenna array systems for 6G communication
