National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT Raipur) is hiring Junior Research Fellows (JRF) for a Government of India sponsored project on Hyperspectral remote sensing and its application in the Centre of Space and Planetary Exploration (COSINE). National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT Raipur), Chhattisgarh has released an advertisement for the post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Centre of Space and Planetary Exploration (COSINE), under a Government of India sponsored time-bound research project titled "Hyperspectral remote sensing and its application". The project is led by Dr. H. Govil, Project In-charge, Department of Applied Geology, NIT Raipur. The duration of the project is 6 months and the engagement is purely temporary, co-terminus with the project. Selected JRF candidates will be encouraged to register for a Ph.D. at NIT Raipur as per NITRR norms.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

  • Post Graduate Degree in Geology / Applied Geology / Geo-informatics / Geography, OR
  • Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in a Professional Course selected through one of the following national-level eligibility tests:
    • CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship)
    • GATE
    • Selection through any National-level examination conducted by Central Government Departments / Agencies / Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.

  • CSIR-UGC NET (with NET-Lectureship)
  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) - MHRD

Stipend

  • Consolidated Monthly Compensation: Rs. 37,000 per month + HRA
  • No regular leave entitlement (CL and RH are allowed as per NITRR rules)
  • No TA / DA will be paid for attending the interview

Selection Process (Interview Based)

Selection is purely based on interview — there is no written exam:

  1. Shortlisting: Based on essential qualifications mentioned in the advertisement
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for interview on 22 May 2026 at 11:00 AM onwards. The mode of interview will be Hybrid (online / offline) based on the request of the candidate
  3. Document Verification: Candidates must bring all original certificates from matriculation onwards, date of birth proof, NET / equivalent certificate, degree certificate, and self-attested photocopies
  4. Final Selection

Only the candidates meeting the essential qualifications will be interviewed. Concealing of facts or canvassing in any form leads to disqualification.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out research work in Hyperspectral remote sensing and its applications under the project guidance
  • Process and analyse hyperspectral satellite data using Python, IDL, Matlab or similar tools
  • Prepare research reports, technical notes, and presentations for the project
  • Assist the Principal Investigator (Dr. H. Govil) in the day-to-day project activities
  • Maintain proper laboratory records and adhere to NIT Raipur administrative, financial, and disciplinary regulations
  • Contribute to publications in national and international journals based on the project work
  • Participate in project meetings, seminars, and academic activities at the Centre of Space and Planetary Exploration (COSINE)

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Post Graduate Degree in Geology / Applied Geology / Geo-informatics / Geography OR Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course with CSIR-UGC NET / GATE or equivalent

Preferred Qualification

Experience in Hyperspectral remote sensing; working knowledge of Python / IDL / Matlab
