NIH Roorkee Project Associate-I Recruitment 2026: Overview

The National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, a Government of India society under the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation), is hiring a Project Associate-I through a walk-in interview. The post is part of an Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) PM ECRG project titled "Geochemical and isotopic fingerprinting of hydrological, hydro meteorological and hydrogeological processes sustaining Yamuna river". It suits a geology or earth-science postgraduate who wants hands-on research experience on the Yamuna river system.

This is a project-based, full-time contract at the NIH campus in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. You will work on a time-bound research job, so the engagement lasts only as long as the project needs you. If you have cleared NET, GATE or a similar national-level exam, keep that certificate ready, because it decides which pay slab you get.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The engagement is for one year at first and can be extended till the project closes in June 2029. It is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project, and gives no claim to any regular NIH post.
• Two pay slabs: The higher slab applies if you qualified CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship or Assistant Professorship), GATE, or another national-level exam conducted by central government departments and their agencies; everyone else gets the lower slab.
• Full-time only: You cannot take up any other assignment while working with NIH.
• No extra allowances: Apart from HRA, there is no Dearness Allowance, residential telephone, transport facility or personal staff.
• Housing: You may get transit accommodation as per institute rules on payment of a licence fee, and you must vacate it when your tenure ends.
• Travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview or for joining. Official travel within India during the job is covered.
• Posts may change: The number of posts can increase or decrease depending on the project.
• Cancellation: The institute can end the engagement at any time without giving a reason.

Application Submission Notes

There is no online form. Walk in at NIH, Jalvigyan Bhawan, Roorkee (Uttarakhand) - 247667 at 11:00 AM on the interview day with your bio-data, a passport-size photo, original proof of qualification and experience, and self-attested copies of your certificates. Once the interview starts, late arrivals are not admitted.

Use the bio-data format attached to the advertisement. It asks for the advertisement number, the post, your order of preference among sub-projects, personal and category details, qualifications from High School onwards with percentages, work experience, research papers, software knowledge and a list of enclosures. Outstation candidates must arrange their own boarding and lodging in Roorkee.
