National Investigation Agency (NIA) has released notification for 5 posts of Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP) on deputation basis. Officers serving in Central or State Government with a Bachelor's degree and relevant investigation experience can apply. Last date to submit your application is 05 May 2026. NIA Addl. SP & Dy. SP Recruitment 2026 - 5 Posts
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has invited nominations from eligible officers for 2 Addl. SP and 3 Dy. SP positions on deputation basis. NIA is India's central counter-terrorism law enforcement agency with jurisdiction across the entire country. Both posts are All India based, meaning you could be posted at any NIA branch office across India. Who Can Apply?
For Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP):
- Service Requirement: You must be an officer of the Central Government, State Government, or Union Territories holding analogous posts on regular basis, or with 5 years of service in PB-3 (Rs 15,600-39,100) with Grade Pay Rs 5400 (pre-revised) or equivalent.
- Qualification: Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in handling investigation of criminal cases, intelligence work including counter-terrorism operations, or imparting training in counter-terrorism.
For Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP):
- Service Requirement: You must be an officer of the Central Government, State Government, or Union Territories holding analogous posts on regular basis, or with 2 years of service in PB-2 (Rs 9,300-34,800) with Grade Pay Rs 4800, or 3 years with Grade Pay Rs 4600 (pre-revised) or equivalent.
- Qualification: Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in handling investigation of criminal cases, intelligence work including counter-terrorism operations, or imparting training in counter-terrorism.
Note: Departmental officers in the feeder category who are in the direct line of promotion are not eligible for deputation. Similarly, deputationists cannot be considered for promotion.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications (05 May 2026).
- Period of deputation shall ordinarily not exceed 3 years.
Salary
- Addl. SP: Pay Matrix Level 11 - Rs 67,700 to Rs 2,08,700 per month (Pre-revised PB-3 with Grade Pay Rs 6,600)
- Dy. SP: Pay Matrix Level 10 - Rs 56,100 to Rs 1,77,500 per month (Pre-revised PB-3 with Grade Pay Rs 5,400)
- Special Security Allowance: 20% of basic pay
- Plus DA, HRA, Transport Allowance, and other allowances as admissible under Central Government orders

Selection Process
Since these are deputation posts, there is no written exam. Selection will be based on:
- Screening of Applications: NIA will review all nominations and supporting documents received through proper channel.
- Document Verification: Verification of APAR dossier, educational qualifications, experience certificates, vigilance clearance, and integrity certificate.
- Interview / Assessment: Shortlisted officers may be called for interview or personal assessment by the Selection Committee.

Responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day investigation of criminal cases and preliminary enquiries assigned by NIA
- Collect intelligence related to cases within your area of responsibility and coordinate with state ATS and security agencies
- Conduct operations related to NIA cases across the country as and when required
- Prepare progress reports, investigation reports, final reports, and charge sheets for submission to supervisory officers
- Interrogate terrorists and extremists pertaining to your jurisdiction and prepare detailed dossiers on them
- Monitor national security developments and track activities of militant and fundamentalist outfits in your assigned area
- Pursue cases in courts after filing of charge sheets, attend bail applications, and ensure all witnesses are properly handled
- Develop domain knowledge in areas related to cases being investigated and raise intelligence sources in your jurisdiction
