NCCR Project Scientist Mission Mausam Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), an attached office of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, is hiring Project Scientists for the Mission Mausam programme. The team will work on coastal hazard studies, flood modelling, field observations and digital tools that help administrators understand risks in coastal cities. These are temporary, project-linked appointments at the NCCR Visakhapatnam campus.

NCCR has worked on coastal research and management services since 1998, and this drive adds scientific capacity for multi-hazard assessment and decision-support systems. The roles combine geospatial analysis, numerical modelling, software development and field-based research. The mix of senior and early-career positions gives experienced GIS specialists as well as civil and computer professionals a route into applied coastal science.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Project Scientist-III: a senior geospatial and modelling role covering coastal-city hazards, flood and hydrology models, field measurements and web-based decision tools.
  • Project Scientist-II: an experienced research role with similar technical coverage, including multi-hazard modelling, impact assessment and interactive GIS dashboards.
  • Project Scientist-I: two technical streams support the programme: civil-engineering work on coastal processes and surveys, and computer or IT work on databases, web applications and customised geospatial tools.

Post-wise Duties

Project Scientist-III

You will lead numerical studies of multiple hazards in coastal cities and turn the results into impact assessments. You will also design interactive Web-GIS dashboards that bring together flood forecasts, climate hazards and socio-economic vulnerability for decision-makers. Clear technical reports are an important output of the role.

Project Scientist-II

You will carry out coastal multi-hazard modelling and geospatial assessment, using advanced tools and field information. The job includes building Web-GIS decision-support dashboards, presenting risk information clearly and preparing detailed technical reports for the programme.

Project Scientist-I

In the civil-engineering stream, you will study coastal processes and floods, process and analyse data, prepare reports and help plan and run field surveys. In the computer and IT stream, you will create coastal-hazard web applications, maintain databases and develop geospatial tools for ArcGIS Server or GeoServer dashboards and apps.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: the appointments are temporary and run with the project up to its notified end, with a possible extension based on performance and programme needs.
  • Citizenship: all positions are open only to Indian nationals.
  • Posting: the place of work is the NCCR Visakhapatnam campus, and selected candidates may need to join soon after medical fitness is confirmed.
  • Experience counting: experience is counted after the essential academic qualification. A completed Ph.D. may count as three years, but it does not give an extra overlapping benefit when earned during service.
  • Current employees: applicants working in government, public-sector or autonomous organisations must provide a No Objection Certificate from their employer.
  • Interview travel: NCCR will not pay travel or daily allowance for attending the interview.
  • No regularisation: selection does not create a right to permanent absorption or regular appointment in NCCR.
  • Recruitment discretion: the number of posts may change, and NCCR may cancel the drive if approvals, funds or project needs change.

Application Submission Notes

The recruitment accepts applications through the NCCR online portal only. Upload copies supporting your education, date of birth, experience and any claimed relaxation or disability status; originals will be checked later if you are selected. Incomplete forms are liable to rejection, and canvassing can disqualify your candidature.

Corrigenda and Notices

  • Place-of-posting corrigendum: the recruitment page links a separate posting notice. Read it with the main advertisement; the current notice places the work at the NCCR Visakhapatnam campus.

Responsibilities

  • Model coastal floods, hydrology and other hazards affecting coastal cities
  • Assess hazard impacts with geospatial tools and field information
  • Design Web-GIS dashboards for decision-support systems
  • Process and analyse coastal, survey and oceanographic datasets
  • Plan and carry out field surveys and measurements
  • Develop coastal-hazard web applications, databases and geospatial tools
  • Present forecasts, climate risks and vulnerability information clearly
  • Prepare detailed technical reports on project findings
