About This Job
The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) under the Department of Atomic Energy, is hiring a Facility-in-Charge for High Performance Computing (HPC) on contract basis. NCBS Facility-in-Charge (HPC) Recruitment 2026 — 1 Post
NCBS is one of India's top research institutes in biological sciences. It runs several high-end research facilities that support not just its own researchers, but also academic and industry partners across the country and abroad. Under Advertisement No. 6/2026 dated 7 April 2026, NCBS is looking for an experienced HPC professional to manage and grow their High Performance Computing infrastructure. This is a great opportunity if you have deep expertise in Linux system administration and HPC cluster management.

Who Can Apply?
Essential Qualification
- Master's degree in IT, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or related engineering disciplines
- OR Master of Computer Applications (MCA)
- OR Master's in Computer Science
- OR PhD in Computer Science
- Minimum 50% marks in qualifying degree
Essential Experience
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in system administration on a Linux environment
- Experience working with large HPC clusters and centralized storage setups
Desirable Experience
- System Administration/HPC experience in an educational or research organization of repute
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 55 years as on 1 January 2026
Salary
- Consolidated monthly salary: Rs. 1,25,000 to Rs. 1,80,000
- The exact amount will depend on your experience and qualifications
- This is a contract position, initially for 1 year, extendable based on performance review

Responsibilities
- Design new HPC clusters and stay updated with the latest technology and hardware for upgrading current HPC setups
- Install and upgrade operating systems and job schedulers (Slurm, PBS, SGE) on HPC infrastructure
- Manage all HPC infrastructure including servers, firewalls (IDS/IPS), switches, and related hardware and software
- Install, configure, and optimize research software for users on HPC platforms and integrate new applications
- Assist researchers with job submission, resource allocation, data management, and identify performance optimization opportunities
- Troubleshoot failed jobs, cluster nodes, and disk space issues while coordinating with vendors and internal teams
- Maintain and verify periodic data backups, manage VMware environments, and handle LAN/WAN networks
- Develop training materials and conduct workshops to educate users on HPC technologies and best practices
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in IT/CS/EE/ECE or MCA or PhD in Computer Science with minimum 50% marks
Preferred Qualification
Experience in System Administration/HPC in an educational or research organization of repute

Linux system administration, HPC cluster management, Slurm/PBS/SGE, MPI/OpenMP/CUDA, VMware, LAN/WAN, Python/Bash/Perl scripting, high-performance storage systems
