Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Sub Inspector / Junior Intelligence Officer Recruitment 2026 - 43 Posts
The Narcotics Control Bureau, working under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is India's central agency for fighting drug trafficking and enforcing the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. It has issued a vacancy circular to fill 43 existing and anticipated Sub Inspector posts in its Regional Offices and Zones. This is an open, continuous vacancy circular — NCB keeps accepting complete applications every month and reviews them against vacancies available at that time, instead of closing after a single date. The 43 vacancies notified are provisional and can go up or down as NCB's staffing needs change, so it is worth applying even if you are unsure of the exact current opening in your preferred zone.
If selected, you could be posted to any of NCB's regional units — Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Dehradun, Gorakhpur, Agartala, Imphal, Itanagar, Siliguri, Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, Cochin, Vishakhapatnam, Goa, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore and Jodhpur, among others, as you are liable to serve anywhere in India. NCB does mention that knowledge of the local language, terrain, and culture of a region is considered when deciding where to post an officer, so your background may influence your posting.
Who Can Apply?
There are two routes to becoming eligible for this posting, based on your current pay level and years of service. You need to meet one of these routes along with the qualification and experience requirements below.
- Government Service: You must be a serving Central Government, State Government, or Union Territory officer — this is not a direct recruitment drive for the general public.
- Eligibility Route 1: You are holding an analogous (equivalent) post on a regular basis in your parent cadre or department.
- Eligibility Route 2: You have 6 years of regular service in Level-5 (Rs. 29,200-92,300) of the Pay Matrix in your parent cadre or department.
- Qualification: A Bachelor's degree from a recognized University or Institute.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience in enforcement of regulatory laws and collection of related intelligence.
- Desirable: 1 year of experience investigating criminal or economic offences is preferred but not compulsory, and can strengthen your application if you already meet the essential criteria.
Age Limit
- You should not be more than 56 years old as on the closing date of receipt of applications.
Salary
- Selected officers will draw pay in Level-6 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, ranging from Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month (pre-revised PB-2 Rs. 9,300-34,800 + Grade Pay Rs. 4,200), in Group-'B' Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial cadre.
- You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as admissible to Central Government employees.
Selection Process (No Written Exam)
Since this is a deputation posting meant for experienced government officers, NCB does not conduct a written exam or interview for these vacancies. You get selected purely through document screening:
- Application Screening: Your Curriculum Vitae, APAR gradings, Integrity Certificate, Vigilance Clearance and other documents get checked against the eligibility criteria.
- Selection Committee Review: NCB's Selection Committee assesses eligible applications and shortlists officers for the 43 posts based on service record and experience.
- Cadre Clearance: Your parent department confirms you will be relieved to join NCB on deputation if you are selected.
How to Apply
Since this is a deputation posting, you cannot apply directly online — your application has to be routed through your current employer. Here is how the process works:
- Get the application (Curriculum Vitae) proforma attached to the vacancy circular from your establishment or NCB.
- Fill in your service details, qualifications and experience carefully.
- Attach APAR gradings for the last 5 years, duly attested by an officer not below the rank of Under Secretary.
- Attach an Integrity Certificate, Vigilance Clearance Certificate and a major/minor penalty statement for the last 10 years.
- Get a Cadre Clearance Certificate from your department confirming you will join NCB on deputation if selected.
- Forward your complete application through proper channel to the Deputy Director (P&A), Narcotics Control Bureau, 2nd Floor, August Kranti Bhawan, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi-110066, or email it to dda-ncb@nic.in.
