Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) is hiring 4 Research Assistants for the Planning Department, Government of Manipur on a contractual basis for 1 year (extendable). Who Can Apply?
- Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India.
- Qualification: You need a graduation degree in Economics, Commerce, Mathematics, or Statistics from a recognised university. Having aptitude for research or investigation is preferred.
- Domicile: You must be a permanent resident of Manipur. Your parent or any ancestor in your direct lineage must also be a permanent resident of Manipur. You need to submit a PRC (Permanent Resident Certificate) — domicile certificates or other residential certificates are NOT accepted.
- Language: You must be able to speak Manipuri or any Tribal dialect of Manipur.
Age Limit
- You should be between 21 and 38 years old as on 5 May 2026.
- Age relaxation for Government servants: If you are already working under the Government of Manipur, you get relaxation equal to the length of your continuous service in the post.
- ST candidates: You get 5 additional years of relaxation beyond the continuous service relaxation.
- Special relaxation: If you had already applied for Research Assistant under earlier notifications (No. 1/57/2015-Plg dated 27.12.2019 or PLG1-201/6/2022-PLG-PLANNING dated 12.02.2024), you will get upper age relaxation. You need to upload your previous Admit Card or Acknowledgement Receipt as proof.
- There is NO age relaxation for categories where no posts are reserved.
Salary
- Pay Scale: Rs. 9,300-34,800 + Grade Pay Rs. 4,200 (Level-7)
- Post Group: Group-B
- Probation period: 2 years
- Since this is a contractual post, your actual pay and service conditions will be as per the Government of Manipur's Office Memorandum No. RRDP-30/1/2021-DP-DP dated 16 July 2021.
- You will also get allowances as per government contract appointment rules.

Selection Process
Selection is done in 3 stages:
- Paper-I — General Studies (100 marks, 2 hours): 100 MCQs covering Current Affairs (International, National, and State — Manipur), Geography (World, India, Manipur), History and Important Events (India and Manipur), Political System of India, and Aptitude & Reasoning.
- Paper-II — Subject-specific (100 marks, 2 hours): 100 MCQs covering Planning in India (national and Manipur context, reforms in Economics/Agriculture/Education etc.), Economics, Statistics & Commerce (National Income, Economic Planning, Indian Economy, Hypothesis Testing, Regression Models, Time Series, Research Methodology, Accounting, Business Finance), Knowledge of Computer (MS Office, Operating System, Internet, E-Governance, Data & Portal Skills), and Mathematics (Quantitative Aptitude).
- Interview (25 marks): Candidates called for interview = 3 times the number of vacancies per category.
Total marks: 225. There is no negative marking. Your final merit is based on the combined Written Exam + Interview marks.

Responsibilities
- Collect, compile, and analyse data for state planning and policy research
- Assist in preparing planning documents, reports, and project proposals
- Monitor implementation of government schemes and programmes
- Conduct field surveys and primary/secondary data collection as needed
- Prepare statistical summaries, tables, and research notes for senior officers
- Coordinate with various government departments to gather planning-related information
- Support the Planning Department in evaluating development projects and budgetary allocations
