Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), a 50:50 Joint Venture of Government of India and Government of Kerala, has released notification number KMRL/HR/2026-27/03 dated 20 May 2026 for the post of Additional General Manager (Design) in E7 Grade. The post is for looking after the Design functions of KMRL, which operates a 28 km network with 25 stations and is now expanding under Phase II (JLN to Info Park) covering 11 km and 11 stations. Experienced civil engineers with structural design background in Railway/Metro Rail projects can apply on either regular or deputation basis.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• Essential: B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering from an AICTE / UGC recognised University or Institute
• Preferred: M.Tech / M.E / Post Graduate Degree in Structural Engineering

Experience (On Regular Basis)

• Minimum 17 years of post-qualification experience in planning, design and/or execution of Civil Engineering Structures
• At least 10 years must be in structural design and/or construction of Railway/Metro Rail Viaducts/Bridges
• Out of those 10 years, 3 years must be exclusively in design
• Railway/Rail PSU/Metro Rail candidates must be in the equivalent scale or have 2 years in the immediate lower grade (IDA/CDA pattern)
• Private sector candidates need a present/last CTC of at least Rs. 1.80 lakh per month

Experience (On Deputation Basis)

• You must be a serving officer of Railway / Subsidiary sister concern / Metro Rail in the Civil Engineering Department
• You must be in SG pay scale Rs. 1,23,100 - 2,15,900 (Level-13, CDA Pattern) or IDA Rs. 1,00,000 - 2,60,000 or equivalent
• IRSE officers need minimum 5 years out of 17 years in structural design/construction of Railway/Metro Rail Viaducts/Bridges
• Deputation period is 3 years, extendable as per deputation terms

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 50 years (as on 01 May 2026)
• Regular KMRL employees get up to 5 years age relaxation when applying for a higher post
• KMRL contract employees with 'Very Good' performance get up to 3 years age relaxation
• Deputationists from Railways may get up to 2 years relaxation in total experience at management's discretion

Salary

• Regular post: Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 2,60,000 per month (IDA pattern)
• Deputation post: As per deputation terms and conditions
• Plus DA, HRA and other allowances as per KMRL rules
• Initial pay will normally be fixed at the minimum of the scale, with advance increments at management's discretion

The selection will be done in these stages:

2. Written / Online Test and/or Interview: Only shortlisted candidates will be called. You will be informed through your registered email ID
3. Document Verification: You must submit proof of age, qualification, experience and CTC at the time of test/interview

• Lead the design functions of KMRL covering metro rail viaducts, bridges and civil structures
• Plan and review structural designs for Phase II expansion (JLN to Info Park) covering 11 km and 11 stations
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors and government agencies on design approvals
• Review detailed drawings, design calculations and technical specifications for civil works
• Ensure designs meet safety, quality and metro rail standards as per Indian Railway / Metro Rail codes
• Support the Water Metro Project and IURWTS project design requirements
• Mentor design engineers and build the structural engineering capability within KMRL
• Report project design status, risks and approvals to senior management
