Kashmir University JRF Botany Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Department of Botany, University of Kashmir, Srinagar is holding a walk-in interview for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) / Junior Project Fellow (JPF). The fellow will work on the research project "Structure and Functioning of Himalayan Monsoon Shadow Forest Ecosystems", under a sub-project that links species diversity to sustainable forest management in the monsoonal and monsoon-shadow regions of the Western Himalaya.

Funding comes from the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. This is a project-linked, purely temporary position, and it suits a Botany postgraduate who enjoys field surveys and plant sampling in the mountains.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Junior Research Fellow (JRF): the main designation, meant for Botany postgraduates who have cleared NET.
  • Junior Project Fellow (JPF): used only when no NET-qualified candidate is available; a JPF is paid as per the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change guidelines instead of the JRF rate.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: The engagement is initially for one year, subject to satisfactory performance and conduct.
  • Extension: Any extension depends on your outcome, behaviour, conduct and performance, and on the funding agency releasing funds.
  • Temporary: The position is co-terminus with the project — it ends when the project ends.
  • Fitness: You must be physically and mentally fit for field surveys in high-elevation mountain regions.
  • Your responsibility: You are answerable for the authenticity of the information and documents you submit.
  • Rules: The engagement follows the rules of the funding agency and the University of Kashmir.
  • Interview travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
