About This Job

Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) is hiring 30 Drug Inspectors (Aushadhi Nirikshak) on a permanent basis for the Drug Control Directorate, Namkum, Ranchi under the Department of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Government of Jharkhand. If you have a degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharm.D, or Medicine with specialisation in Clinical Pharmacology or Microbiology, this is your chance at a State Government Class-II Gazetted post in the Pay Band Rs. 9,300-34,800 with Grade Pay Rs. 5,400 (Level-9). JPSC Drug Inspector Recruitment 2026 — 30 Posts

JPSC has issued Advertisement No. 12/2025 dated 28 January 2026 for direct recruitment to the post of Drug Inspector under the Drug Control Directorate of the Health Department. The vacancies were requisitioned through letter no. 139(16) dated 22 August 2024. JPSC has also issued a supplementary press release dated 25 April 2026 reopening the application portal for Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree holders. The probation period is 2 years, and the post is permanent under the Drug Control Directorate.

Vacancy Breakdown

Total 30 vacancies are available across reservation categories. The category-wise split is:

  • Unreserved (UR): 18 posts

Who Can Apply?

You must be an Indian citizen, hold a qualifying degree, and meet the experience criteria as per Rule 49 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.

Educational Qualification

  • Degree in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences from a university established in India by law, OR
  • Degree in Medicine with specialisation in Clinical Pharmacology or Microbiology, OR
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree (added via JPSC supplementary press release dated 25 April 2026).

Experience (Rule 49 of Drug & Cosmetics Rules 1945)

  • At least 18 months' experience in the manufacture of at least one of the substances specified in Schedule C, OR
  • At least 18 months' experience in testing of at least one of the substances in Schedule C in a laboratory approved by the licensing authority, OR
  • At least 3 years' experience in the inspection of firms manufacturing any of the substances specified in Schedule C during tenure as Drugs Inspector.

  • Minimum age: 21 years

Salary

  • Pay Band: PB-II Rs. 9,300 to Rs. 34,800
  • Grade Pay: Rs. 5,400 (Level-9, 7th CPC)
  • You will draw Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), medical benefits, and other allowances as per Government of Jharkhand rules.
  • The post is permanent with a 2-year probation period.

Selection Process

Selection is through a written examination followed by a personal interview.

  1. Written Examination (Objective Type, 1000 marks): 5 papers each of 200 marks, with 2 hours per paper. Subjects covered are Pharmaceutics and General Medicine, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence and Ethics.
  2. Interview (100 marks): Personal interview to assess subject knowledge, communication, and personality.
  3. Document Verification: Original certificates verified before final appointment.

Final merit is the combined total of the written examination and interview marks (out of 1100). The minimum qualifying marks are 40% (UR / EWS), 36.5% (BC-II), 34% (BC-I), 32% (SC / ST and Women), and 30% (Primitive Tribes).

Responsibilities

  • Inspect drug manufacturing units, retail and wholesale drug stores, and laboratories across Jharkhand for compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945.
  • Collect drug samples from manufacturers, distributors, and chemists for quality testing under Schedule C of the Drug Rules.
  • Verify product labels, batch records, manufacturing licences, and good manufacturing practice (GMP) compliance during inspections.
  • Investigate complaints of spurious, adulterated, or substandard drugs and prepare detailed inspection reports for the Licensing Authority.
  • Authorise inspection of substances mentioned in Schedule C as per Rule 49 of the Drug & Cosmetics Rules 1945.
  • Maintain records of inspections, sample analyses, prosecution case files, and statutory registers as per departmental procedures.
  • Coordinate with State Drug Testing Laboratory, courts, and police on prosecution and seizure of unlawful drug products.
  • Support drug control and pharmacovigilance programmes of the Government of Jharkhand and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Degree in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Degree in Medicine with specialisation in Clinical Pharmacology or Microbiology, or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D), from a university established in India by law.

Preferred Qualification

Pharm.D degree (added via supplementary notification dated 25 April 2026); experience in regulatory inspection of pharmaceutical units.

Required Skills

Knowledge of Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 / Rules 1945, GMP standards, drug sampling and testing procedures, pharmaceutical quality control, regulatory documentation, basic computer skills.

Exam Pattern
