JNCASR JRF Chemistry Recruitment 2026: Overview

Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is adding a Junior Research Fellow in its New Chemistry Unit for a DBT-sponsored research project led by Prof. Jayanta Haldar. This is a temporary project role at the Jakkur campus in Bengaluru, built around laboratory research rather than classroom or administrative work. The project sits at the meeting point of chemistry, materials science and infection control, making it especially relevant if you want experience in applied biomedical materials.

The study is titled “In-aqueous fabrication of antimicrobial covalent coating on catheters to mitigate catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs)”. In practical terms, the research team is working on a coating that can be formed in water and attached firmly to catheter surfaces. The aim is to reduce microbial growth on a device widely used in hospitals, so your work will connect chemical design with a clear healthcare problem.

The notification comes from the Principal Investigator in the New Chemistry Unit, which means the fellow will work within a focused laboratory team. The project calls for careful synthetic work, purification and characterisation of organic compounds, along with clear recording of experiments. If your interest lies in polymer or organic chemistry and you want to see how laboratory materials can address clinical infections, this project offers a sharply defined research theme.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Nature of engagement: The fellowship is a temporary position sanctioned under a DBT-sponsored project; it is not a regular JNCASR appointment.
  • Current employment: If you already work for another organisation, you must provide a No Objection Certificate from your employer when applicable.
  • Research setting: The position is attached to Prof. Jayanta Haldar’s laboratory in the New Chemistry Unit at JNCASR, Jakkur, Bengaluru.
  • Assessment: The selection committee will judge shortlisted applicants on their suitability for the project and their performance during the notified assessment.

Application Submission Notes

The application is handled by email. Send the completed JNCASR template, supporting material and a brief resume to haldarlab.jnc@gmail.com. Because the role is tied to one laboratory, direct your application to the Haldar Lab rather than to a general institute inbox.

Your supporting material should make the connection between your background and the project’s polymer-synthesis and organic-characterisation work easy to see. Use the prescribed template from the institute website and keep the attached records clearly named so the laboratory can match them with your resume.

If you are currently employed, include the relevant employer permission with the rest of the material. The notice asks for copies supporting your academic background, age, experience and publications, so make sure the claims in your resume agree with the attached evidence.

Responsibilities

  • Plan laboratory experiments for antimicrobial catheter-coating development
  • Synthesize and purify polymers and related organic compounds
  • Characterize prepared compounds using suitable laboratory methods
  • Record experimental procedures, observations, and results accurately
  • Analyze research data and discuss findings with the project team
  • Prepare research summaries, figures, and material for project reports
  • Follow laboratory safety and sample-handling procedures
