Jharkhand Grih Raksha Vahini (Home Guard), Deoghar has released Advertisement No. 01/2026 inviting online applications for enrollment as Home Guards (Grih Rakshak) against 772 vacancies in Deoghar district. Out of the total posts, 634 are for Rural Home Guard and 138 for Urban Home Guard. Who Can Apply?

For Rural Home Guard (Gramin Grih Rakshak):

  • Qualification: Minimum Class 7th Pass from a recognised board or school
  • Domicile: You must be a permanent resident of the block in Deoghar district from which you are applying for rural enrollment

For Urban Home Guard (Shahari Grih Rakshak):

  • Qualification: Minimum Matriculation (Class 10th Pass) from a recognised board
  • Domicile: You must be an ordinary resident of the urban area of Deoghar district
  • Technical Skill (preferred): Proficiency in any technical trade is valued — such as doctor, engineer, advocate, teacher, nurse, computer operator, typist, licensed driver (LMV/HMV), cook, carpenter, cobbler, washerwoman, barber, electrician, gardener, plumber, etc.

Physical Standards

Physical standards are the same for both Rural and Urban Home Guard posts:

For Male Candidates:

  • Height: 162 cm (General / OBC / BC) | 157 cm (SC / ST)
  • Chest: 79 cm (General / OBC / BC) | 76 cm (SC / ST)

For Female Candidates:

  • Height: 148 cm (all categories)

Selection Process

Selection is carried out as per Jharkhand Government, Home Department notification No. 5442 dated 20.10.2014. The process has the following stages:

  1. Physical Test (Shareerik Janch Pariksha): Includes 1 mile run, high jump, long jump, and shot put. Marks are awarded based on performance. This is the main competitive stage.
  2. Hindi Writing Test: Qualifying round for all shortlisted candidates. Standard is Class 7 level for Rural and Class 10 level for Urban. Full marks: 100, Passing marks: 30. You must pass this to stay in the race.
  3. Technical Proficiency Test: For Urban Technical category candidates only. Qualifying round. Full marks: 100, Passing marks: 30.
  4. Merit List Preparation: Final merit list is prepared based on physical test marks + bonus marks (sports and government service marks where applicable).
  5. Document Verification, Medical Examination & Police Character Verification: Candidates shortlisted from the merit list must submit all certificates and undergo medical and character checks.
  6. Basic Training: Selected candidates get basic Home Guard training at Jharkhand Grih Raksha Vahini headquarters, Ranchi. Enrollment certificate is issued after successful completion.

Sports Bonus Marks:

  • National Level — 1st place: 6 marks | 2nd place: 4 marks | 3rd place: 2 marks
  • State Level — 1st place: 3 marks | 2nd place: 2 marks | 3rd place: 1 mark

Exam Pattern

The selection is based on a Physical Test (Shareerik Janch Pariksha) as the main competitive stage. There is no written objective exam — selection is merit-based on physical performance.

Physical Test — Events and Marks

For Rural Home Guard and Non-Technical Urban Home Guard candidates:

  • Running (1 mile):
    • Male: Under 5 min — 20 marks; 5–6 min — 10 marks; Over 6 min — disqualified
    • Female: Under 8 min — 20 marks; 8–10 min — 10 marks; Over 10 min — disqualified
  • High Jump: Scored from 5 to 10 marks based on cleared height (minimum 4 ft for male, 3 ft for female)
  • Long Jump: Scored from 5 to 10 marks based on distance (minimum 12 ft for male, 9 ft for female)
  • Shot Put: Male — 16 lb weight, minimum 16 ft; Female — 10 lb weight, minimum 16 ft

For Technical Urban Home Guard candidates:

  • Running (1 mile):
