IRDE DRDO Consultant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Instrument Research and Development Establishment (IRDE), a premier laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under the Ministry of Defence, has invited applications for engagement of one Consultant (Post Code 2026/IRDE/334) on a short-term contract basis. The post is specifically open to retired government officials from Central/State Government, Public Sector Undertakings, autonomous bodies, and universities. The consultant will handle all civil works in the technical area of the IRDE laboratory at Dehradun. Candidates who have previously worked with DRDO will be given preference during selection.

Who Can Apply?

• Experience: You must be a retired officer or employee of a Central/State Government, Public Sector Undertaking, autonomous body, university, or government research and development organisation, with hands-on knowledge and experience in the area for which you are applying (as per the Terms of Reference).
• Pay Level at Retirement: You must have retired at Pay Level 11 or Pay Level 12 under the 7th Central Pay Commission.
• Skills Required:
  • Preparing technical documents for construction projects — site plans, layouts, case statements, board proceedings
  • Responding to technical queries raised by DGW/E
  • Understanding and maintaining land records of IRDE (technical and residential areas)
  • Coordinating with DGW/O for site approval for construction projects
  • Monitoring the progress of ongoing civil works to ensure timely completion
• Other Requirements: You must have effective communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to investigate work-related matters in depth. You must also be willing to work on holidays or beyond normal working hours when required.
• Cool-off Period: At least 15 days must have passed between your date of retirement and the date of joining as a consultant.
• Priority: Candidates with prior experience of working with DRDO will be given preference.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 63 years as on 28 April 2026 (last date of application)
• This age limit applies to retired government employees of all categories.

Salary

• For Pensioners: A fixed monthly amount equal to the basic pay at the time of retirement minus the basic pension drawn.
• For Non-Pensioners (Pay Level 11): Up to Rs. 50,000 per month
• For Non-Pensioners (Pay Level 12): Up to Rs. 60,000 per month
• Transport Allowance (Pay Level 11): Rs. 3,000 per month
• Transport Allowance (Pay Level 12): Rs. 5,000 per month
• The total remuneration (pay + pension + DA) cannot exceed the last basic pay drawn at retirement as per Government of India guidelines dated 6 July 2022.
• No other benefits such as travel or daily allowances will be provided.

Selection Process

There is no written exam for this post. Selection will be based on:

1. Screening of Applications: Applications will be reviewed for eligibility and relevant experience.
2. Merit / Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for verification of documents and credentials.

IRDE/DRDO reserves the right to select or reject any application. Preference will be given to those with DRDO work experience.
