Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is hiring 899 men for six trades in the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) under the Ministry of Defence.   • Passed 10+2 (Intermediate) from a recognised board
  • Typing speed of 30 words per minute in Hindi on computer

Store Keeper Technical / SKT (300 posts)

  • Passed 10+2 (Intermediate) from a recognised board
  • Basic knowledge of Vehicle/Engineering

  • Passed Matriculation (10th) from a recognised board

  • Passed Matriculation (10th) from a recognised board
  • Must hold a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) Driving Licence

  • Plus ITI Certificate in the Electrical trade

Age Limit

  • You should be between 18 and 27 years old (General category) as on the application closing date
  • OBC candidates: Up to 30 years (3 years relaxation)
  • SC/ST candidates: Up to 32 years (5 years relaxation)
  • Ex-Servicemen (ESM): Age relaxation as per Government of India rules
  • PwBD candidates: Age relaxation as per GoI rules

Salary

  • Draughtsman: Pay Level 5 — Rs. 29,200 to Rs. 92,300 per month (entry pay Rs. 29,200)
  • Operator Excavating Machinery, Operator Communication, Electrician: Pay Level 2 — Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 per month
  • Store Keeper Technical, Hindi Typist: Pay Level 2/4 as per detailed notification on bro.gov.in
  • Plus Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, and special Hard & Risk Allowance as per GoI rules
  • BRO/GREF members also get free rations, free single accommodation, Clothing Allowance, Children Education Allowance, Leave Travel Concession, and medical treatment

Selection Process

Selection happens in four stages:

  1. Written Examination: Objective-type written test. Question pattern and syllabus will be in the detailed notification on bro.gov.in.
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) / Skill Test: Physical fitness test and trade-specific practical/skill test (applicable to relevant posts). Shortlisted candidates from the written exam are called for this stage.
  3. Document Verification: Original certificates checked against application details.
  4. Medical Examination: Final medical fitness test at a designated military or government hospital.

Final merit is based on written exam marks. Only those who qualify each stage are called for the next.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strategic roads, bridges, and infrastructure in border areas of India
  • Operate, maintain, and repair trade-specific equipment and machinery as assigned
  • Keep accurate store records, issue materials, and verify inventories (for SKT posts)
  • Prepare technical drawings and blueprints for road/civil engineering projects (for Draughtsman)
  • Handle communication equipment, systems, and operations as assigned (for Operator Communication)
  • Maintain electrical installations, wiring, and equipment at project sites (for Electrician)
  • Follow safety norms, military discipline, and standard operating procedures at all times
  • Prepare and maintain official registers, logs, and duty records as required

Exam Pattern
