IOP Bhubaneswar Research Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar, an autonomous research institution of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), is hiring a Research Associate under the DAE Raja Ramanna Chair (DAE-RRC) held by Dr Manmath Kumar Badapanda. This is a project-based contract position, not a regular post.

The project covers refurbishing and deploying the high voltage system of the institute's 3 MV Tandem Pelletron Accelerator, along with running and maintaining its power supplies and control-interlock-protection system. The goal is better beam quality, more operating uptime and higher reliability for the accelerator. If you are an electrical or electronics engineer who enjoys hands-on power electronics and high voltage work, this is a rare chance to work on a real particle accelerator.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: the appointment is for two years, with a performance review at the end of each year.
• Extension: it may be extended up to the end of Dr Badapanda's DAE-RRC tenure, so the job is tied to the Chair, not to the institute's regular cadre.
• Fellowship slab: the fellowship follows IoP/DAE rules, and a higher slab applies if you have four years' experience after B.E/B.Tech or equivalent.
• GATE score: a valid GATE score is desirable for B.E/B.Tech candidates who have only the degree qualification.
• Preferred background: regulated DC power supplies, power electronics, control-interlock-protection systems, power semiconductor devices and drive circuits, transistors and OPAMPs.
• Shortlisting: only shortlisted candidates are called for the interview.
