INFLIBNET Scientist and Senior Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET), an autonomous Inter-University Centre of the University Grants Commission (UGC) based in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, is recruiting a Scientist-E (Library Science), a Scientist-B (Computer Science) and a Senior Assistant/Office Assistant-II under Advertisement No. 01/2026. The Centre runs national academic platforms such as ONOS, Shodhgangotri, Shodh-Chakra, Vidwan, IRINS, NIRF and SOUL, so the work connects directly with university libraries across India.

Each post is filled through a different route: deputation, direct recruitment against a lien vacancy, and regular direct recruitment. Check which route fits your profile before you apply. All three posts are unreserved.

Posts and Disciplines

Post-wise Duties

Scientist-E (Library Science)

You will be a senior member of a team of young library professionals. You help university libraries computerise their work, build machine-readable databases, organise information services, and run training programmes and seminars on computerised library operations.

Scientist-B (Computer Science)

You will work with a team of computer professionals on library software packages and networking facilities. You will also advise university libraries during computerisation and train library staff to use computers.

Senior Assistant/Office Assistant-II

You will handle drafting and noting, administrative and establishment matters, finance and accounts, and purchase and stores work for the Centre.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Lien vacancy: If the person holding the lien on the Scientist-B post returns, you will have to vacate it. If they do not return, you are likely to be continued and made permanent.
• Deputation terms: The Scientist-E post is on deputation for one year as per Government of India rules. You must upload your APARs for the last five years and attach them to the hard copy.
• Place of posting: The current posting is in Gandhinagar, but you can be posted anywhere in India when required.
• Pension: Selected candidates are covered only by the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
• Experience counting: Only relevant experience gained after the required qualification counts, reckoned as on the last date of the online application.
• Shortlisting: The Centre may call only a limited number of candidates based on criteria higher than the minimum, and call letters go by email only.
• Government employees: Apply through proper channel. If your employer is slow, you may send an advance copy and give the No Objection Certificate when asked.
• Medical fitness: The selected candidate must submit a fitness certificate from a Civil Surgeon of a Government hospital.
• Foreign degrees: Attach an AIU equivalency certificate with your application.
• Travel: No TA is paid for attending the test or interview, and test dates cannot be changed.

After submitting, send one printed copy with self-attested copies of all certificates by Speed Post, Registered Post or courier to Recruitment Cell, Information and Library Network Centre, Opp. NIFT, Infocity, Gandhinagar, Gujarat – 382007.

Write your Application No. and the post applied for on the envelope. The hard copy must reach the Centre by 30 November 2026, 5:30 PM. Applying for more than one post means a separate online form, fee and hard copy for each.
