Selection Process

Selection happens in two stages. In Stage I, you will take the INET (Indian Navy Entrance Test) online -- a computer-based exam with 100 MCQs in 60 minutes. If you clear this, you move to Stage II which includes a Physical Fitness Test (running, squats, push-ups, sit-ups), another written exam, and a recruitment medical examination. Shortlisting for Stage II is done state-wise, so cut-offs may differ from state to state.

Preparation Tips for Indian Navy INET 2026 Exam

  1. Know the four sections -- English, Science, Mathematics, and General Awareness. You must pass each section individually and in aggregate.
  2. Stick to the 10+2 standard -- the syllabus is based on Class 12 level, so your NCERT textbooks are your best resource.
  3. Watch out for negative marking -- every wrong answer costs you 0.25 marks, so avoid random guessing.
  4. Practice time management -- you get just 60 minutes for 100 questions, which is roughly 36 seconds per question.
  5. Download sample papers from the official website joinindiannavy.gov.in to understand the question pattern.
  6. Stay physically fit -- Stage II has a mandatory PFT. Start running and doing push-ups, squats, and sit-ups well in advance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve aboard warships including aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, and submarines
  • Perform trade-specific duties based on branch allocation (SSR: technical work; MR: catering, housekeeping, hygiene; SSR Medical: nursing and medical stores management)
  • Handle small arms and participate in ship landing and boarding operations
  • Maintain discipline and follow Indian Navy regulations during the 4-year engagement period
