IITR QUEST Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is building a project team in its Department of Physics for QUEST, the Quantum Enhanced WRF model for Urban Climate System Modeling project. Sponsored by the National Quantum Mission under the Department of Science and Technology, the work brings quantum-computing methods together with weather and urban-climate modelling. The shared notice covers senior project coordination, two technically different Project Fellow profiles, a junior research role and a senior research role. Each role belongs to the same three-year project, but the technical focus and application schedule vary by post.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Consultant: A senior role combining project coordination with the development and testing of quantum algorithms.
• Project Fellow for WRF and climate modelling: Work centred on Weather Research and Forecasting models, cloud microphysics, climate datasets and accelerated computing.
• Project Fellow for quantum algorithms: A physics and quantum-computing role focused on building algorithms for the urban-climate modelling programme.
• Junior Research Fellow: Computational research covering quantum algorithms, simulations, data analysis and machine-learning tools; the selected person may also get an opportunity to seek PhD admission.
• Senior Research Fellow: Advanced WRF modelling and simulations with climate datasets in high-performance and GPU computing environments.

Post-wise Duties

Project Consultant

You will coordinate the QUEST project, connect its research strands and help manage delivery while contributing to quantum-algorithm development and testing.

Project Fellow for WRF and Climate Modelling

You will use and improve WRF model components, run simulations and work with climate or global-circulation-model datasets. The role calls for an understanding of cloud microphysics or related physics and practical work on accelerated computing systems.

Project Fellow for Quantum Algorithms

You will build quantum algorithms for climate-system modelling and connect that work with physics, WRF and high-performance GPU computing.

Junior Research Fellow

You will develop algorithms, perform simulations and support computational and machine-learning data analysis for the project.

Senior Research Fellow

You will develop and test WRF workflows, run climate-data simulations and work in high-performance and GPU-enabled environments.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: Every listed engagement is attached to the QUEST research project for a three-year duration.
• Role-specific schedule: The Consultant and Project Fellow applications close earlier than the JRF and SRF applications; their interviews are also held on a different day.
• Document verification: Bring your original degrees, certificates and experience records when you attend the interview.
• SC and ST preference: The notice gives preference to SC or ST applicants when qualifications and experience are equal.
• Travel costs: IIT Roorkee will not pay TA or DA for attending the interview.
• Applicant responsibility: Check that your qualification and experience match the chosen role before sending the application.

Send your CV to the principal investigator at arumugam@ph.iitr.ac.in. The notice also permits an application to reach the principal investigator's office by post or to be produced at the interview, but it separately asks applicants to email the CV by the role-specific deadline.

Your application should include a detailed CV with degrees and certificates in chronological order, a clear record of research or industrial experience, and attested copies of the supporting certificates. Keep the originals ready for verification at the Department of Physics. Make sure the CV identifies the exact QUEST role you want, because the notice contains several positions with different technical work.
