IITGN JRF Physics Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is looking for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in its Physics department. The fellow joins Prof. Arpan Bhattacharyya's group on the project “Effects of Environment on Gravitational Wave: Search for New Physics”. The group works on classical and quantum gravity and uses tools from quantum field theory to attack problems in gravitational physics. If you have an M.Sc in Physics, a national-level fellowship qualification and a real interest in general relativity, this short project post is worth a look.

This is a theory-heavy research post. The PI wants candidates with a strong academic record through B.Sc and M.Sc and a good working grip on general relativity and quantum field theory. Students who have already done projects using advanced quantum field theory methods are especially encouraged to apply.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Short tenure: The primary aim is a 6-month position. The appointment runs for 6 months or until 6 September 2027, whichever comes first.
• No extension: Project funding ends on 6 September 2027, and no further extension will be possible after that.
• Funding agency rules: Eligibility follows ANRF (funding agency) norms rather than institute norms, so qualifying through a national-level route such as CSIR-UGC NET or GATE is part of the requirement.
• Consolidated pay: The monthly amount already includes HRA; no separate housing payment is added on top.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee an interview call. The PI may apply a higher cut-off and may leave the post unfilled in this round.
