The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) at Kamand in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, has released Advertisement No. Lib Trainee/2026/27 to engage 6 Library Trainees at its Central Library. This is a one-year traineeship for internship purpose — a strong way to get hands-on experience of running the library of a top national institute right after your master's degree. The Central Library supports students, research scholars and faculty across many departments, so as a trainee you will get exposure to reference services, circulation, cataloguing and digital resources. You also get a chance to attend one National Level Workshop during the year, which adds real value to your resume. Please remember that this is a purely temporary, contract-based role for one year and does not lead to a regular job at the Institute.

Who Can Apply?

• Essential Qualification: A Master of Library and Information Science (M.Lib.I.Sc.) from an affiliated university or institute with at least 60% marks or an equivalent grade, obtained after graduation.
• Candidates who are awaiting their final or last-semester M.Lib.I.Sc. results can also apply, so final-year students are welcome.
• Desirable: Good knowledge of Computer Applications and Library Management Software, which helps you handle the digital catalogue and records.

In short, if you have finished (or are about to finish) your M.Lib.I.Sc. with 60% marks and are within the age limit, you meet the basic eligibility for this post. Candidates who are comfortable with computers and library software usually find the trade test easier.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 28 years as on the last date of application (21 July 2026).
• Age Relaxation: SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates get relaxation as per Government of India norms — usually 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC and 10 years for PwD candidates.

Salary

• You will get a fixed consolidated pay of Rs. 22,000 per month for the one-year traineeship.
• As this is a consolidated amount, there is no separate DA or HRA on top of it.
• You also get a provision to attend one National Level Workshop, which is a good addition to your resume.

No TA/DA is paid for attending the walk-in interview.

Application Fee

Selection Process

Selection is done through a walk-in interview on 21 July 2026. The assessment has two parts, and the marks are shared in the ratio 75:25:

1. Written Test (75% weightage): Questions are based on the M.Lib. Science syllabus, so revise your master's course topics well.
2. Trade Test (25% weightage): A practical test to check how well you handle real library tasks.
3. Document Verification: Your original certificates and mark sheets are checked on the same day.

Because both parts are based on library-science topics, revising your M.Lib.I.Sc. subjects and brushing up on library software will help you score well. Only candidates who clear document verification are considered, so keep your certificates complete and in order. The Institute may put a reasonable limit on the number of candidates called for the test/interview, and its decision is final (subject to the jurisdiction of the court at Mandi).
