The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance is looking for 17 officers to fill the posts of Registrar, Assistant Registrar and Recovery Officer in Debts Recovery Tribunals (DRTs) and Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunals (DRATs) across India, on a deputation basis. This opportunity is open only to serving officers of Central/State Government, Courts, Tribunals and Public Sector Banks who meet the eligibility criteria. The last date to apply through proper channel is 8 September 2026. Selected officers get pay under Level 11 or Level 12 (Rs. 67,700 to Rs. 2,09,200 per month) of the 7th CPC pay matrix.

Department of Financial Services (DFS) DRT/DRAT Recruitment 2026 - 17 Posts

The Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance has issued a vacancy circular for filling 17 posts of Registrar, Assistant Registrar and Recovery Officer in various DRTs and DRATs across the country, on deputation basis, up to 31 December 2026. This includes existing vacancies as well as anticipated and unforeseen vacancies that may come up during this period. DRTs and DRATs are specialised tribunals set up under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act, 1993 to help banks and financial institutions recover dues from defaulters faster than regular civil courts. There is no written exam — selection is based on your service record and eligibility. Who Can Apply?

For Registrar (Pay Level 12):

  • You must be holding an analogous post on a regular basis in your parent cadre or department, OR
  • Have 5 years of regular service in Level 11 (Rs. 67,700-2,08,700) or equivalent, OR
  • Officers of Public Sector Banks in Scale V (regular), or Scale IV with 5 years regular service
  • Desirable: Experience in legal or judicial work

For Assistant Registrar (Pay Level 11):

  • Holding an analogous post on a regular basis, OR
  • 5 years of service as Section Officer in Level 9 (Rs. 53,100-1,67,800), OR 6 years in Level 8 (Rs. 47,600-1,51,100), OR 7 years in Level 7 (Rs. 44,900-1,42,400)
  • Officers of Public Sector Banks in Scale IV (regular), or Scale III with 5 years regular service
  • Desirable: Experience in legal or judicial work

For Recovery Officer (Pay Level 11):

  • Same criteria as Assistant Registrar — holding an analogous post on a regular basis, or the equivalent years of service as Section Officer in Level 9, 8 or 7

Note: Departmental officers in the direct line of promotion are not eligible for this deputation, and deputationists are not eligible for promotion to these posts.

Age Limit

  • The maximum age limit for appointment on deputation is 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications (8 September 2026).
  • This same date is also the crucial date used to decide your eligibility for these posts, even if the last date for receipt of applications is later extended.

Salary

  • Registrar: Rs. 78,800 to Rs. 2,09,200 per month under Pay Level 12 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
  • Assistant Registrar and Recovery Officer: Rs. 67,700 to Rs. 2,08,700 per month under Pay Level 11.
  • You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per central government rules, along with deputation (duty) allowance.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on eligibility screening and document verification — no written test is mentioned in this circular:

  1. Screening of Applications: Your service record, eligibility and experience are checked by your Cadre Controlling Authority before being forwarded.
  2. Document Verification: You need to submit a Vigilance Clearance, Integrity Certificate, Major/Minor Penalty Certificate and ACRs/APARs for the last 5 years (2021-22 to 2025-26).
  3. Final Selection: Made by the Department of Financial Services based on your eligibility and service record.

  6. Note: Once selected, you cannot withdraw your candidature — doing so leads to a one-year debarment from applying for any DRAT/DRT deputation post.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day registry operations of the Debts Recovery Tribunal or Appellate Tribunal
  • Process case filings, applications and execution petitions under the SARFAESI Act and RDB Act
  • Handle recovery of dues from defaulting borrowers as directed by the Tribunal
  • Maintain case records, orders and official correspondence of the Tribunal
  • Coordinate with banks, financial institutions and legal counsel on recovery matters
  • Supervise ministerial and support staff of the Tribunal
  • Ensure compliance with tribunal rules, timelines and administrative procedures

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Serving Central/State Government, Court, Tribunal or Public Sector Bank officer holding an analogous post, or with the required years of regular service in Level 7-9 (Assistant Registrar/Recovery Officer) or Level 11 (Registrar) or equivalent PSB scale

Preferred Qualification

Experience in legal or judicial work
