IIT ISM Research Associate-I Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad (IIT ISM Dhanbad) is hiring a Research Associate-I (RA-I) for a Centre of Excellence project funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. The project runs basic and advanced IT and computer training programmes for tribal students in Jharkhand. It is led by Prof. Rashmi Singh of the Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering. This is a project-based contract post, not a regular faculty or staff position.

The role mixes research, teaching and project management. You will run primary surveys and analyse the data, teach computers and IT in tribal schools, and look after the project's paperwork and accounts. It suits someone with a doctorate or strong post-master's research experience who is happy to work with school students outside the campus as well as at the desk.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: About one year and five months — the post ends when the project is completed, up to 27 March 2028.
• Research paper: Whichever qualification route you use, you need at least one research paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.
• Reporting: You will report to the investigators of the project.
• Shortlisting: Holding the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call. Candidates are shortlisted on merit and project needs, and shortlisted candidates are told the interview date.
• Travel and stay: No TA/DA is paid for the interview, and you must arrange your own stay in Dhanbad if needed.
• Joining: Bring your original certificates and supporting documents for verification when you join.
• Notice wording: The header line of the notice calls this a Project Assistant position, but the post actually advertised is Research Associate-I.
