IIT ISM Dhanbad Professor Recruitment 2026 — 60 Vacancies

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is hiring 60 Associate Professors and Professors across 17 departments. If you have a Ph.D. with a First Class record and strong teaching or research experience, you can apply online. The last date to apply is 30 September 2026. The starting basic pay is Rs. 1,39,600 per month for Associate Professor and Rs. 1,59,100 per month for Professor under the 7th Central Pay Commission.

Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad Professor Recruitment 2026 - 60 Posts

The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad, one of the oldest technical institutes in the country, has released Advertisement No. 411002/1/2026-Dean(F)/2 for 60 faculty posts at the Associate Professor and Professor levels. These posts are open to Indian Nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) and Foreign Nationals. Recruitment is done department-wise based on the specialization areas each department needs, so you should apply in the department that best matches your research area. Foreign nationals — people who do not hold an Indian passport or a PIO/OCI card — can be given a contractual appointment for up to five years, which can be renewed later. This is a strong chance for experienced academics and senior researchers to join a top institute of national importance.

Vacancy Breakdown

A total of 60 posts are open across both levels, distributed category-wise as follows:

• Unreserved (UR): 24 posts
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 16 posts
• SC: 9 posts
• EWS: 6 posts
• ST: 5 posts

Out of these 60 posts, 2 posts are reserved for Divyang (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) candidates — one for locomotor disability (including leprosy cured, dwarfism and acid attack victims) and one for low vision. Women and PwD applicants are encouraged to apply.

The 17 departments include Applied Geology, Applied Geophysics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Environmental Science & Engineering, Fuel Minerals & Metallurgical Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management Studies & Industrial Engineering, Mathematics & Computing, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Physics.

Who Can Apply?

Qualification: You must have a Ph.D. with First Class (or equivalent grades) at the preceding degree in the relevant branch, with a very good academic record throughout. A good CPI/CGPA/percentage in your Ph.D. course work is also expected where applicable.

For Associate Professor (Pay Level 13A2):

• Minimum 6 years of teaching, research or industrial experience, of which at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor (Pay Level 12) in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, IISERs or institutes of national importance / equivalent standards.
• A demonstrated record of independent research, Ph.D. guidance and publications in reputed journals.

For Professor (Pay Level 14A):

• Minimum 10 years of teaching, research or industrial experience, of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, IISERs or equivalent institutes.
• Proven leadership in research, a strong publication record, patents and course / laboratory development.

Age Limit

• There is no upper age limit prescribed for these faculty posts, so experienced academics can apply.
• Your qualification, experience and category certificates are checked as on the closing date, 30 September 2026.

Salary

• Associate Professor: 7th CPC Academic Pay Level 13A2, minimum basic pay Rs. 1,39,600 per month.
• Professor: 7th CPC Academic Pay Level 14A, minimum basic pay Rs. 1,59,100 per month.
• You will also get DA, HRA, Transport Allowance and other allowances as per Institute rules.
• Extra benefits include a Professional Development Allowance of Rs. 3 lakh over a three-year block, Children Education Allowance, cashless medical facilities, Leave Travel Concession and relocation reimbursement up to Rs. 1.25 lakh.
• You also get on-campus transit accommodation, a fully furnished office, a computing facility worth about Rs. 1.25 lakh, and access to the Faculty Mobility Program and sabbatical leave.
• Higher initial pay may be offered to exceptionally qualified and deserving candidates.

Selection Process

Selection is based on screening and interview — there is no written exam:

1. Screening / Shortlisting: The Institute reviews all applications and shortlists candidates based on qualifications, experience and academic achievements above the minimum.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called before the Selection Committee for an interview and discussion, which may include a seminar on your area of specialization.
3. Document Verification: Original certificates and a No Objection Certificate (for those already in government service) are checked at the time of the interview.

Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call — the Institute may raise the bar based on the number of applications received. Candidates called for the interview are reimbursed AC 2-Tier train fare within India.
