IIT ISM Dhanbad JRF Mechanical Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad (IIT ISM Dhanbad) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for the ANRF-ECRG sponsored project "π-DUST: Physics-Informed Data-driven Modeling and Uncertainty Quantification with application to Structural Twins" in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The project is led by Dr. Suparno Bhattacharyya and combines computational mechanics, artificial intelligence and digital-twin technology, with collaborators from Texas A&M University and Penn State University. This is a single-position, three-year opening that gives you the chance to contribute to research publications, open-source software and experimental validation while building an international research network.
Candidates comfortable with Python programming, structural dynamics or finite-element tools such as ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL Multiphysics and MATLAB will find the work particularly suited to their background, and prior AI/ML research experience in structural systems counts as a strong plus.

Responsibilities
- Contribute to the π-DUST research program combining computational mechanics, AI and digital-twin modeling
- Develop and test physics-informed and data-driven models for structural systems
- Collaborate with the research team and international collaborators on model validation
- Prepare technical documentation, research papers and open-source code contributions
- Support experimental validation and uncertainty quantification studies
- Participate in project review meetings and present progress updates
- Maintain accurate records of simulations, datasets and research findings
