IIT ISM Dhanbad Field Investigator Recruitment 2026

Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad (IIT ISM Dhanbad) has invited applications for 1 Field Investigator (FI) position under the ICSSR-sponsored research project titled "Belief, Memory, and Modernity: Structural Transformations in the Religious Practices and Ritual Performances of the Mal Paharia Community." The project is led by Dr. Nirban Manna, Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. This is a temporary position for 18 months (or co-terminus with the project). The fieldwork will be carried out in Santhal Pargana districts of Jharkhand including Dumka, Deoghar, Pakur, Sahebganj, Godda, and Jamtara.

Who Can Apply?

• Essential Qualification: You need a Graduation degree in any Social Science discipline with a minimum of 55% marks. Preference will be given to candidates with a four-year graduation programme.
• Desirable: Previous experience in data collection, survey, or interviewing.
• Language Skills: Knowledge of English, Hindi, and Malto or Bengali is desirable.

Age Limit

• Age limit is as per ICSSR rules.
• Standard age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates applies as per government norms.

Salary

• Selected candidate will receive a fellowship of Rs. 20,000 per month.
• This is a project-based position funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).
• The position is for 18 months or until the project ends, whichever comes first.

Selection Process

The selection will be done through:

1. Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted based on their academic merit and suitability for the project requirements. Just meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. The date will be communicated separately.

Note: No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. You need to make your own travel and stay arrangements at Dhanbad.
