Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad (IIT ISM Dhanbad) has advertised 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position under an ANRF-ECRG sponsored project titled "Natural Hydrogen hotspots mapping and characterization in India through the lens of geoscientific data, and artificial intelligence technology." The project is led by Prof. Partha Pratim Mandal (Principal Investigator, Department of Applied Geophysics) along with Prof. R. Anand (Co-PI, Department of Applied Geology). As a JRF, you will work on integrating remote sensing, geological, and geophysical datasets to map natural hydrogen hotspots across India, carry out field surveys for sample collection, run experimental analysis, and contribute to data interpretation and report writing. The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project, sanctioned for 2 years or till the project ends, whichever is earlier. If you perform well, you could also be considered for admission to the PhD program at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad as per institute norms.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: M.Sc. / M.Sc. Tech. / M.Tech. in Applied Geophysics, Applied Geology, Petroleum Exploration, or BS-MS in Earth Science (or an equivalent degree) with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.
• Mandatory Requirement: You must have qualified GATE or CSIR-UGC NET.
• Preferred Experience: Candidates with some experience in geological and geophysical modelling, field survey work, and AI/ML applications in geoscience will be given preference.

Age Limit

• The age limit and relaxation will follow Government of India / DST-ANRF norms for JRF recruitment. No fixed age cap is mentioned in the notification.

Salary

• You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month, in line with DST-ANRF norms for JRF positions.
• House Rent Allowance (HRA) will be paid as per institute norms if hostel accommodation is not provided.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

The selection will be done in the following stage:

1. Shortlisting and Interview: You will be shortlisted for an interview based on merit and the requirements of the project. Meeting the minimum qualification alone does not guarantee an interview call. Shortlisted candidates will be informed by email, tentatively by 27 August 2026, to appear for an online or offline interview.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview, and you must arrange your own stay at Dhanbad if required.
