Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) JRF Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

IIT Guwahati is one of India's premier technical institutes, known for strong research programs across engineering, science, and technology disciplines. Its Research and Development Section has released a notification for 1 Junior Research Fellow post under the sponsored project "Demonstration of CO2 Mineralization on Steel Slag and Ultramafic Rock Residues Using a Hybrid Shockwave-Assisted Reactor", based in the Department of Civil Engineering. The application window is very short — you must apply within a day of the notification going live, so if you meet the eligibility criteria, apply as soon as possible. This position gives you the chance to work on carbon-capture research at one of India's premier engineering institutes, under the guidance of Dr. Vivek Padmanabha.

This project focuses on demonstrating carbon dioxide mineralization using industrial by-products like steel slag and ultramafic rock residues, processed through a shockwave-assisted reactor. If selected, you will get direct exposure to applied research in sustainable construction materials and carbon capture technology — a field that is gaining increasing importance in India's climate and infrastructure planning. This is a great stepping stone if you are looking to build a research career in civil and environmental engineering.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You need a Post Graduate Degree in a Basic Science, or a Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in a Professional Course.
  • Qualifying Route 1: You must be a scholar selected through the CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET), including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), and GATE.
  • Qualifying Route 2: You can also qualify if you were selected through National Level Examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies — this includes DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IISc, and IISER.
  • You only need to meet one of these two qualifying routes, not both.

Since only 1 candidate will be selected for this post, make sure your qualifying credentials (NET/GATE scorecard or equivalent) are ready and verifiable before the interview date. You should also keep your educational certificates, mark sheets, and identity proof ready, as these are typically checked during the interview process.

Salary

  • You will receive a monthly package of Rs. 45,650, made up of Rs. 37,000 basic pay, Rs. 7,400 House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Rs. 1,250 medical allowance.
  • The appointment runs for 11 months, and your basic pay may be revised by the competent authority based on your interview performance and relevant experience.
  • This is a consolidated monthly package — no additional allowances beyond HRA and medical are mentioned in the notification.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written test for this position — selection is based purely on an interview:

  1. Interview: You need to appear for the interview on 14 August 2026 (Friday) at 3:00 PM, at the Meeting Room, Civil Department, IIT Guwahati.
  2. Shortlisting Update: If you are shortlisted, you will get an email on 12 August 2026 (Wednesday).
  3. Final Selection: Your final selection depends entirely on how you perform in the interview — there is no separate merit list stage.
