Bodoland University was set up under the Bodoland University Act, 2009, by upgrading the Kokrajhar campus of Gauhati University into a full-fledged state university serving the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of Assam. Through this rolling advertisement (Advt No. BU/Estt./P.P./6/2026/270, dated 12 March 2026), the university invites industry veterans and other professional experts to join as Professor of Practice under UGC guidelines, bringing hands-on, real-world knowledge into the classroom alongside its regular faculty. Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You should be a distinguished expert who has made remarkable contributions to your profession. A formal academic degree is not compulsory if you can show exemplary professional practice instead — in that case, you are also exempted from the usual research-publication requirement expected of Professor-level faculty.
• Experience: You need at least 15 years of service or experience at a senior level in your chosen profession, along with the practical skills to carry out the teaching and mentoring duties of the role.
• Eligible professional fields: Humanities and Social Sciences; Science, Engineering and Technology, Architecture; Commerce, Management, Entrepreneurship, Cooperatives; Law, Public Policy, Public Administration; Media, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Linguistics; Agriculture, Veterinary, Fishery, Animal Husbandry, Poultry, Dairy and Allied Sciences; and Medical Science, Pharmacy, Sports, Physical Education.
• This post is not open to anyone currently serving in, or retired from, the teaching profession.
• Engagement period: You will be engaged for one year in the first instance. Based on merit, this can be extended up to 3 years, but your total engagement with the university cannot exceed 4 years under any circumstances.
• Age proof: Only your Matriculation, Secondary School, or Higher Secondary passing certificate from a recognised board will be accepted as proof of your date of birth.

Salary

• There is no fixed pay scale for the Professor of Practice post. Your salary will be mutually agreed with the university, depending on whether you take up the role on a full-time or part-time basis.
• The university does not follow the standard UGC pay matrix for this position, since it recognises professional practice in place of the usual academic pay structure.
