IIT Delhi Research Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is hiring a Research Associate at its School of Public Policy for AdaptAIR: Climate Adaptation through Artificial Ice Reservoirs in the Himalayas (project RM00195F). AdaptAIR is an international project funded by the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA) under Horizon, and it studies Artificial Ice Reservoirs (AIRs) as a climate-adaptation measure in the Himalayan region.

The project brings together climate science, glaciology, hydrology, political economy, anthropology and science-and-technology studies. The IIT Delhi part looks at institutions: who governs water and climate adaptation in India, how they work together, and how different kinds of knowledge shape policy. This is a contractual project post for a qualitative social-science researcher, not a lab or engineering job. You will work with Prof. Anshu Ogra, the project investigator, and the AdaptAIR team at King's College London.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.
• Contract terms: The appointment is on consolidated pay, renewed yearly or up to the end of the project, whichever is earlier. The notice lists the project duration as "Upto 29.02.2032".
• Fieldwork: You should be ready for field research in Ladakh, Spiti, Mustang (Nepal) and Delhi as the project needs.
• SC/ST marks relaxation: SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks.
• Retired employees: If a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, the salary is fixed as per the prevailing IRD norms.
• Shortlisting: IIT Delhi may set higher shortlisting criteria than the advertised qualification. Shortlisted names and the online interview details are posted on the IRD shortlist page.

• Map the institutions and governance actors involved in water governance, climate-change adaptation and Artificial Ice Reservoir work in India
• Carry out institutional mapping at the national, federal and district levels, with special focus on Ladakh
• Identify institutional mandates, roles, coordination arrangements and decision-making processes in climate adaptation and water governance
• Support qualitative research through document review, stakeholder identification and semi-structured interviews with officials and experts
• Help run national-level stakeholder meetings, interviews and workshops, and organise and analyse the material they produce
• Contribute to institutional maps, analytical reports, academic papers, policy outputs and presentations
• Support field research in Ladakh, Spiti, Mustang (Nepal) and Delhi
• Coordinate with researchers at King's College London and other AdaptAIR partner institutions
