IIT Delhi Project Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), through its Industrial Research and Development (IRD) Unit, is looking for a Project Scientist in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. The post sits under the project SAMPARK: Building Capacity for Sustainable Environment: Advanced Materials, Photonics, and System Design for a Clean Energy Transition (project code RP05067G_SN), funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Science and Engineering Research Board. The project is led by Prof. Vamsi Krishna Komarala.

This is a walk-in test / interview, so there is no online form to fill. If you hold a PhD in Physics or Applied Physics and your doctoral work was on optics and photonics, you can simply turn up on the day with your papers. The role suits a fresh or early-career PhD who wants hands-on research work at one of India's top technical institutes.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of appointment: Purely contractual on a consolidated pay, renewable every year or up to the end of the project, whichever comes first.
• Project tenure: The SAMPARK project currently runs up to 31 March 2027, so the job is tied to that timeline.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can appear for the walk-in.
• Marks relaxation: SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks in the qualifying degree.
• Retired employees: If a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, the pay is fixed as per IRD norms.
• Existing IIT Delhi staff: Anyone already working at the Institute or IRD will be interviewed only if their application is forwarded by their own establishment or section.

Application Submission Notes

Bring a filled-in Form No. IRD/REC-4 to the walk-in. You can download this form from the IRD website (ird.iitd.ac.in/rec). The form should show your marks percentage for every exam you passed, your work experience and a recent passport-size photo.

The walk-in is held at the OPC Committee Room, IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110016, from 10:00 a.m. onwards. Carry your original academic and professional certificates, because they will be checked on the spot. For any doubt about eligibility, write to smt@opc.iitd.ac.in before the walk-in day.

• Carry out optics and photonics research for the SAMPARK clean-energy project
• Work on advanced materials and photonic system design for energy applications
