IITD Senior Project Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), through its Industrial Research and Development (IRD) Unit, is hiring a Senior Project Scientist for the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. The post works on a study of long-term trends and co-variability in wind, solar and precipitation resources across Indian states and how these resources relate to each other (project RP04589N). The project is funded by ReNew Power and led by Prof. K. Ravi Kumar.

This is a climate-data research role with a clear renewable-energy angle — the notice expects you to already know numerical weather forecasting with the WRF model and to be comfortable crunching large climate datasets in Python and MATLAB. It suits an M.Tech in Atmospheric Sciences or Energy Science who wants industry-funded research experience at IIT Delhi.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of appointment: Contractual on a consolidated pay, renewed every year or up to the end of the project, whichever comes first.
• Project tenure: The project currently runs up to 25 May 2027, so this is a short engagement.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.

• Marks relaxation: SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks.
• Retired employees: A selected retired or superannuated government employee gets pay fixed as per IRD norms.
