IIT Delhi Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), through its Industrial Research and Development (IRD) Unit, is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Department of Electrical Engineering. The fellow will work on the project Finding the capacity of multiterminal classical and quantum information theoretic tasks under realistic constraints (project code RM00210G_SN), funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Science and Engineering Research Board and led by Prof. Aditya Nema.

This is a theory-heavy research post. Candidates with a background in quantum information theory, quantum error correction or classical information theory are strongly preferred. It is a good fit if you come from Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics and want to work towards a PhD-level research career in quantum information.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of appointment: Contractual on a consolidated fellowship, renewable every year or up to the end of the project, whichever comes first.
• Project tenure: The project runs up to 7 July 2029, so the fellowship can continue for a few years if renewed.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply.
• GATE/NET relaxation: The NET/GATE requirement may be relaxed for graduates of Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) with a CGPA above 8.0 (80% aggregate).
• Marks relaxation: SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks.
• Shortlisting: IIT Delhi can set higher shortlisting criteria than the advertised minimum, so meeting the basic qualification does not guarantee an interview call.
• Retired employees: If a retired government employee is selected, the pay is fixed as per IRD norms.
