IISc LIM Project Trainee Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru is hiring Library and Information Management (LIM) Project Trainees for its J.R.D. Tata Memorial Library (JRDTML). The Human Resources Section of the institute is running this round under advertisement R(HR)Temp-18(LT-JRDTML)/2026.

This is a two-year contractual traineeship built for recent library science graduates. You get hands-on practice across the library's services, with a focus on new tools and technologies used in research libraries. It suits MLISc graduates of 2025 or 2026 who want real library work experience at a major research institute.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Purely temporary, on contract for 2 years. If you worked at IISc earlier through an HR Department appointment, that period counts toward the two-year limit.
• Raise on extension: If your term is extended, you can get an increment of up to 10%, based on your performance and the Competent Authority's recommendation.
• Work schedule: Six days a week on rotational shifts, including holidays, as the library needs.
• Final-year students: You can apply while waiting for your MLISc result, but you must show the final marksheet with First Class at the written test and interview, or you will not be shortlisted.
• Notice period: Either side can end the contract with one month's notice.
• No service benefits: The contract gives no claim to pension, seniority or promotion.
• Category choice is final: You cannot switch from Unreserved to a reserved category after applying, or from one reserved category to another.
• EWS certificate: EWS candidates need an Income and Asset certificate valid for 2026-2027, issued on income for 2025-2026.
• No accommodation: IISc does not give campus housing to trainees.
• Citizenship and fitness: Only Indian citizens can apply, and the engagement depends on medical fitness.
• Waitlist: The merit list and waitlist stay valid for one year.

Application Submission Notes

You apply only online on the IISc temporary positions portal, uploading certificates for your age, category, qualification and marks. Do not post a hard copy, because it is not accepted, but keep a printout of the form for your records.

If many people apply, IISc may hold a written test only to shortlist, and the final choice rests on the interview.
