International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) Senior Research Officer-GIS Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
IIPS, a Deemed-to-be-University in Mumbai, is re-recruiting for one ad-hoc Senior Research Officer – GIS position under its research project on urban population projections. The role is purely contractual, initially for three months and likely to be extended for the full duration of the project. Fresh PhD holders as well as experienced GIS researchers with a strong background in remote sensing and demography are encouraged to apply.
IIPS is India's premier institute for population studies, known for training demographers and public health researchers and for conducting large national surveys. This project studies how India's urban population is expected to change between 2011 and 2041, so you will be working on policy-relevant demographic and GIS modelling rather than routine data entry. Since this is a re-recruitment for the position, the project team is looking to fill the role quickly, so if you meet the qualification, it is worth applying right away.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: Ph.D. in Social Sciences — Population Studies, Demography, Geography, Geo-informatics or (Urban) Planning
- Additional Requirement: Training, diploma or certificate course/specialization in Remote Sensing and GIS
- Preferred: Experience in digital image processing and GIS data handling, knowledge of statistical analysis, at least two research papers in peer-reviewed journals, experience writing research reports, and fluency in English
- The selection committee may relax the essential qualification for an exceptionally suitable candidate.
If you are a demographer or geographer who has picked up GIS and remote-sensing skills along the way, and you enjoy writing research reports as much as running the analysis, this role is designed for you.
Salary
- The selected candidate will get Rs. 70,000 per month on a consolidated basis.
- No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
Selection Process (No Written Exam)
Selection is based on shortlisting and an interview:
- Application Screening: Applications are reviewed against the essential and desirable qualifications.
