IIFM Agroforestry Expert Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal, an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, is hiring an Agroforestry Expert on contract. The post sits inside the project "TEEBAgriFood Activities in Assam", and most of the real work happens on farms and in villages across Assam and nearby regions.

You will give technical support on agroforestry, ecosystem services, sustainable farming and nature-based solutions, run field research, and work closely with farmers and government agencies. You report to the project's Team Leader at IIFM and work alongside the TEEBAgriFood team. It suits a PhD holder in agriculture, forestry or environmental science who enjoys field work as much as report writing.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project post only: This is a project-related contractual position and has nothing to do with IIFM's permanent establishment, so it gives you no claim to a regular job at the institute.
• Tenure: The contract runs for one year from your joining date and may be extended based on your performance and the project's needs.
• Heavy field travel: Expect extensive travel in Assam and adjoining regions, including remote spots, difficult terrain and bad weather.
• Immediate joining: The selected candidate must join right after selection.
• Travel costs: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview. TA/DA is paid only for approved project field visits, and the pay is consolidated with no other allowances.
• Publication rule: Your doctorate alone is not enough — you need at least one paper in a Scopus-indexed journal.
• Canvassing: Any attempt to influence the selection leads to disqualification, and the Director can reject incomplete candidatures.

• Provide technical support on agroforestry and nature-based solutions for TEEBAgriFood work in Assam
• Identify, document and assess agroforestry practices and their environmental, social and economic benefits
• Plan and run field surveys, data collection and field assessments on agroforestry and ecosystem services
• Prepare technical notes, reports, case studies and policy briefs on agroforestry and sustainable farming
• Engage with farmers, communities, government agencies and civil society groups through consultations
• Help design and deliver training and capacity-building programmes for farmers and other stakeholders
• Coordinate with project partners and field teams to collect, check and record field information on time
• Travel widely in Assam and adjoining regions, including remote and difficult areas
