ICMR-NINE Young Professional-II Recruitment 2026: Overview
ICMR-National Institute of NCD Epidemiology (ICMR-NINE), the Bengaluru institute earlier known as ICMR-NCDIR, wants two Young Professional-II hires on a one-year contract. One person will turn the institute's research on cancer and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) into policy briefs for ministries and national health programmes; the other will turn the same research into infographics, videos and social media content for the public. Both roles are time-bound contractual engagements, not regular ICMR posts. If you hold a relevant master's degree and already have three years of work behind you, this is a chance to work close to India's national cancer registry data.
Posts and Disciplines
- Young Professional-II (Public Policy and Evidence Translation): for postgraduates in Public Health (MPH), Health Policy, Epidemiology, Health Systems, Health Economics or Public Policy. The institute says an MPH in epidemiology or health policy, a Master's in Public Policy with a health focus, or health economics training fits this role best. Work on NCD epidemiology, cancer control, surveillance programmes or systematic reviews and meta-analysis is a strong plus.
- Young Professional-II (Scientific Communication and Media): for postgraduates in Science Communication, Public Health Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism, Digital Media or Public Health. Health-communication specialists and public health graduates with strong writing skills are preferred, especially if you have worked with a research institute, university or public health body.
Post-wise Duties
Young Professional-II (Public Policy and Evidence Translation)
You will write policy briefs, evidence summaries and policy notes from NINE and National Cancer Registry Programme (NCRP) findings, and run rapid literature reviews on cancer epidemiology, environmental risk factors and NCD prevention. You will also help draft technical reports, white papers and background papers for senior policymakers, and handle missing-data analysis and project documentation as needs change.
Young Professional-II (Scientific Communication and Media)
You will turn NINE publications and NCRP reports into research highlights, plain-language summaries and visual abstracts. The job includes designing infographics, making short videos and social media posts, running dissemination through the website and newsletters, and helping organise webinars and outreach events. Tools named in the notice include Canva, Adobe Illustrator and PowerPoint.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: The engagement is for one year. Any extension is decided case by case, based on your performance and the institute's needs.
- Not an ICMR employee: You will not be treated as an "employee" or "official" of ICMR and have no claim to regularisation in ICMR, its institutes or the Government of India.
- Who cannot apply: People already in regular time-scale service in any government department or organisation are not eligible.
- Termination: The contract can end at any time; in the normal course, either side gives one month's notice.
- Experience counting: Experience is counted only from the date you completed the minimum qualification.
- One qualification only: If you hold more than one eligible degree, you must choose one for the selection.
- Undertaking: You sign a conflict-of-interest undertaking before joining and must keep official matters confidential.
- Joining: The selected candidate must join immediately or within one week of the offer.
- Travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
