ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (ICAR-NBSS&LUP), Nagpur has invited applications for one Young Professional-II (RS&GIS) post under the NASF-funded project "Exploring the Potential of Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics and Remote Sensing for Soil Health Monitoring in Indian Agro-ecosystems". This is a purely temporary, contract engagement co-terminus with the project, which currently runs till 31 July 2027. There is no written exam — you will be shortlisted directly through a walk-in interview, so you can apply and interview on the same day at ICAR-NBSS&LUP's Nagpur office. This is a good opportunity if you want hands-on research experience in remote sensing, GIS and machine learning applied to real soil health data from Indian agro-ecosystems. ICAR-NBSS&LUP is the national body responsible for soil surveys and land use planning in India, and its Regional Soil Survey Division in Nagpur regularly runs short-term project positions like this one for early-career researchers in agriculture, computer science and geospatial technology.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You need a postgraduate degree or a four-year graduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing & GIS, Soil Science, Agricultural Physics, Data Science & Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Geology, or Geography.
- Desirable: One year of working experience in Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics and Remote Sensing is preferred.
- Desirable: Working knowledge of spatial database handling, management and analysis in GIS is an added advantage.
- There is no minimum experience requirement — both freshers with a strong academic background and experienced candidates can apply, since the desirable criteria are preferred but not mandatory.

Selection Process (Walk-in Interview, No Written Exam)
There is no shortlisting round before the interview — every eligible candidate who shows up with the required documents gets a chance to be interviewed on the spot. You will be selected through a single stage:
- Walk-in Interview: Held on 18 August 2026 at 11:00 AM at ICAR-NBSS&LUP, Amravati Road, Nagpur - 440033.
No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview. The decision of the Director, ICAR-NBSS&LUP is final and binding in all respects. Selected candidates cannot claim a regular appointment at NBSS&LUP/ICAR since the position is co-terminus with the project. The engagement will initially run till the project completes on 31 July 2027, though it may be extended or curtailed based on project requirements and your performance.
