Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) has released Advertisement Notice No. 3-56/2026-PSC (R-I) for Assistant Professor posts in the Department of Medical Education & Research, H.P.. Who Can Apply?

Common Medical Qualification

• Medical registration qualification: You need a recognised medical qualification included in the relevant schedules of the Indian Medical Council Act, now covered under the National Medical Commission Act.
• Super-speciality degree: You need a DM/M.Ch or equivalent qualification in the concerned super-speciality.
• Teaching experience: You need at least 3 years teaching experience as Lecturer, Registrar, Demonstrator or Resident after post-graduation in the concerned speciality.
• Experience counting note: HPPSC states that the 2/3 year DM or M.Ch course can be counted as teaching experience for Assistant Professor super-speciality posts.

Post-Specific Degree Examples

• Thoracic Surgery/CTVS: M.Ch C.T.S. after MS Surgery, or MBBS with 5-year direct M.Ch CTS course.
• Neurosurgery: M.Ch Neuro Surgery after MS Surgery, or MBBS with 5-year direct M.Ch Neuro Surgery course.
• Neurology, Cardiology and Gastroenterology: DM in the concerned subject after MD Medicine, or MBBS with 5-year direct DM course.
• Plastic Surgery: M.Ch Plastic Surgery after MS Surgery, or MBBS with 5-year direct M.Ch Plastic Surgery course.
• Cardiac Anaesthesia and Endocrinology: DM in the concerned subject; Endocrinology also allows MD Medicine or MD Paediatrics with 2 years special training in Endocrinology.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 45 years and below.
• Age is counted as on 1 January 2026.
• Age relaxation: 5 years relaxation is allowed for bonafide SC/ST/OBC/WFF/PwD candidates of Himachal Pradesh where applicable. HP Government employees and ex-servicemen get relaxation as per government rules.

Salary

• Thoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology and Plastic Surgery: Rs. 37,400 to Rs. 67,000 plus Grade Pay Rs. 8,900.
• Cardiac Anaesthesia and Endocrinology: Rs. 1,29,700 at Cell-1, Level-30.
• You will also get allowances as per Himachal Pradesh Government rules after appointment.

Application Fee

• All candidates, irrespective of category or gender: Rs. 600.
• Payment mode: online only through debit card, credit card, UPI or other online digital mode on the OTR portal.
• Fee once paid will not be refunded.

Selection Process

The HPPSC selection process has written tests followed by a personality test. Your final rank is based on marks from the Subject Aptitude Test and Personality Test.

1. Paper-I Screening Test: CBT or offline objective test for 100 marks and 1 hour. Subjects are HP GK (30), national/international GK (30), Hindi (20) and English (20).
2. Paper-II Subject Aptitude Test: Descriptive test for 120 marks and 3 hours in the concerned subject.
3. Document Scrutiny: HPPSC checks original documents before the final interview stage.
4. Personality Test: Interview for 30 marks at the Commission office in Shimla.

Negative marking: Paper-I has a penalty of 0.25 marks for wrong answers, multiple answers, or blanks where no option is marked.

2. Click Apply Online and open the One Time Registration (OTR) page.
3. Register yourself or log in with your existing HPPSC OTR account.
4. Select the live advertisement for the correct Assistant Professor speciality.
5. Fill in the ORA form, upload documents, photograph and signature.
6. Pay the Rs. 600 fee online and submit before 1 July 2026, 11:59 PM.
