Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) has issued Advertisement Number 22/6-2026 dated 07 June 2026 for regular Class-I Gazetted Assistant Professor posts in General Surgery. The posts are under the Department of Medical Education & Research, H.P., and the number of vacancies may increase or decrease as per requirement. Essential Medical Qualification

• Medical Registration Qualification: You must have a recognised medical qualification included in the First Schedule, Second Schedule, or Part-II of the Third Schedule of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, now the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
• Postgraduate Degree: You need a postgraduate degree in the concerned specialty or an equivalent qualification.
• General Surgery Qualification: The notice mentions M.S. (Surgery/General Surgery) and equivalent qualifications such as F.R.C.E. or Speciality Board of Surgery (U.S.A.).

Teaching Experience

• Experience Required: You need at least 3 years teaching experience as Lecturer, Registrar, Demonstrator, or Resident after completing postgraduation in the concerned specialty.

Desirable Qualification

• Himachal Knowledge: Knowledge of customs, manners, and dialects of Himachal Pradesh is desirable.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 45 years and below.
• Age is counted as on 01 January 2026.
• Relaxation: Upper age relaxation of 5 years is available for SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and Children/Grand Children of Freedom Fighters of Himachal Pradesh as per rules, where the category post is available.
• Government Employees and Ex-Servicemen of H.P.: Relaxation is as per Himachal Pradesh Government instructions.

Salary

• Pay Scale: Rs. 37,400 to Rs. 67,000 per month.
• Grade Pay: Rs. 8,900.

Selection Process

The selection process has written tests followed by a Personality Test. HPPSC can conduct the screening test as Computer Based Test or offline test, and the Personality Test is held at the Commission office in Shimla.

1. Paper-I Objective Screening Test: One-hour test for 100 marks. It includes General Knowledge of Himachal Pradesh (30 marks), General Knowledge of National and International Affairs (30 marks), Hindi Language (20 marks), and English Language (20 marks).
2. Paper-II Descriptive Subject Aptitude Test: Three-hour descriptive test for 120 marks based on the subject syllabus decided by HPPSC.
3. Document Scrutiny: Online applications and uploaded certificates are checked before the next stage.
4. Personality Test: 30 marks. Minimum pass marks are 12 for general category and 9 for reserved categories.

Negative marking: In objective tests, 0.25 marks are deducted for a wrong answer. Leaving a question blank without choosing option E can also lead to the same penalty.

Final ranking: Marks in the Subject Aptitude Test plus marks in the Personality Test decide the final ranking.
