Gun Carriage Factory (GCF), Jabalpur, a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence and a unit of Advanced Weapons & Equipment India Ltd. (AWEIL), has released an advertisement for fixed tenure contractual engagement of Skilled (Experienced) Tradesmen. The total includes 169 regular vacancies plus 16 additional Machinist CNC Operator vacancies across 8 trades — Machinist, Fitter, Welder, Heat Treatment, Electroplater, Examiner, Blacksmith, and Turner. The engagement is for one year, extendable up to four years based on performance and factory requirements.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification:

  • You must possess NTC/NAC in the relevant trade, OR
  • Engineering Diploma/Degree in the relevant trade/field from a recognised Government/Private institute affiliated with the Government

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the relevant work area in a reputed company/organisation
  • Experience certificate from the employer is mandatory
  • You need to submit a brief description about the industry, machines worked on, jobs manufactured, programming knowledge (where applicable), and tool selection experience
  • You should be able to give output within 10 days of joining GCF

Working Hours:

  • Typically 8 hours per day, 6 days per week (48 hours/week) as per production schedule

Age Limit

  • You must be between 18 and 35 years as on the last date of application
  • Age Relaxation:
    • SC/ST: 5 years (only for posts reserved for SC/ST)
    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years (only for posts reserved for OBC)
    • Ex-Servicemen: Period of Military Service + 3 years
    • PwD: Up to 10 years as per Government policy

Salary

  • Basic Pay: Rs. 19,900 per month
  • Plus applicable Dearness Allowance (currently 60% DA)
  • Consolidated Monthly Salary: Rs. 31,840 per month
  • Annual increment of 3% on Basic Pay during tenure, subject to satisfactory performance
  • HRA as per AWEIL policy if Quarter is not provided
  • EPF coverage and benefits under Employees' Compensation Act, 1923
  • Paid Leave: Up to 12 days per year (pro-rated)

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on the following stages with 50-50 weightage:

  1. Scrutiny of Application: Based on eligibility, qualification, and experience
  2. Essential Technical Qualification Marks (50% weightage): Marks scored in your NTC/NAC/Diploma/Degree in the relevant trade
  3. Trade Test/Interview (50% weightage): Practical Trade Test or Interview at GCF Jabalpur
  4. Document Verification: Verification of original documents at the factory
  5. Medical Fitness Test: Selected candidates must clear a medical fitness test before joining

Important Notes:

  • Minimum 40% marks required in each stage (Practical/Trade Test AND Written/Interview). Below this, candidate is declared Not Qualified.
  • SC/ST candidates get 5% relaxation in qualifying marks.
  • In case of excessive applications, candidates will be shortlisted for Trade Test based on technical qualification marks and previous experience.
  • Apprenticeship training of 1+ year may be considered as 1 year of work experience for ITI-qualified candidates under Schedule-1 of Apprenticeship Rules, 1992.
  • School pass-outs (fresher apprentices) who completed apprenticeship training — their training period is counted as training only, not experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform precision machining, fitting, welding, or other trade-specific work on Dhanush, LFG, MBT, Kavach, and similar defence platforms
  • Operate CNC machines (Siemens/Fanuc) for tool setting, part alignment, and part inspection
  • Use measuring instruments like Vernier calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges independently
  • Carry out assembly, stripping, dismantling, and fitting work as per drawings and quality standards
  • Complete jobs within the authorised cycle time and meet production schedules
  • Follow safety guidelines and wear protective gear during all factory operations
  • Maintain quality standards and report defects to supervisors
  • Handle material movement, loading, unloading, and positioning using Material Handling Equipment
