Gun Carriage Factory (GCF), Jabalpur Recruitment 2026 - 24 Posts

Gun Carriage Factory, Jabalpur — a unit of Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL) under the Ministry of Defence — has released a notification to hire 24 retired personnel on a one-year fixed tenure contract. This drive is specifically meant for retired Central Government employees and Ex-Servicemen, including those from the erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board, DGQA, DGNAI, DGAQA, EME Workshop, MES and the Armed Forces. The posts cover gun handling, armament fitting, electrical/electronic maintenance and heavy vehicle driving roles connected with large-calibre gun production and firing operations.

The initial one-year contract can be extended by another year based on your performance and factory requirement, and in special cases the engagement may continue for up to three years beyond superannuation, subject to review and a maximum age cap of 65 years. You will work 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, with flexibility required during operational needs, and you get 12 days of paid leave per calendar year which cannot be carried forward. The engagement can be ended by either side with 30 days' notice, and you will be governed by the Official Secrets Act, 1923 given the sensitive nature of the work.

Vacancy Breakdown

• Gunner (Skilled): 8 posts — handles deployment and operation of large calibre guns/ammunition, including firing drills and addressing gun issues during firing.
• Armament Fitter & B Vehicle Fitter (Skilled): 6 posts — fitment, dressing and hydraulic assembly of components for projects like Dhanush/Bofors recoil, elevating and traversing assembly.
• Gunner (Highly Skilled - Retired JCO): 5 posts — oversees critical assembly operations, external liaison, coordination of proof and firing activities, and on-site technical support at Dhanush Gun units.
• Fitter Electrical/Electronics (Skilled): 3 posts — maintains mechanical and electrical/electronic components of large calibre guns and reads technical/maintenance documents.
• Driver HMV (Skilled): 2 posts — operates heavy, multi-axle platforms and armoured carriers in high-stress, off-road and high-altitude terrain.

Note: The Highly Skilled Gunner post is open only to retired JCOs — Honorary JCOs are not considered for this post.

Who Can Apply?

For Gunner (Highly Skilled - Retired JCO):

• You must be a retired JCO with experience overseeing gun assembly, firing coordination and on-site technical support for large-calibre guns.

For Gunner (Skilled), Armament Fitter & B Vehicle Fitter, Fitter Electrical/Electronics, Driver HMV:

• You should be a retired Central Government employee or Ex-Serviceman (Army/Navy/Air Force/BSF/Coast Guard/Agniveer) who held NGO (civilian) or JCO (ESM) rank or below at retirement.
• You need relevant trade experience in the applied post, supported by a certificate from a competent authority.
• Preference is given to retirees from the erstwhile OFB, DGQA, DGNAI, DGAQA, EME Workshop and MES.
• Driver HMV candidates need working knowledge of vehicle mechanics, air-braking systems, winch operations and heavy gear shifting.

Age Limit

• Ex-Servicemen can apply up to 52 years of age as on the last date of application.
• Retired Central Government Employees can apply up to 63 years and 6 months as on the last date of application.
• Even with extensions, the contract cannot continue beyond a maximum age of 65 years.

Salary

• Ex-Servicemen in the Highly Skilled Grade (Gunner - Retired JCO) get Rs. 40,000 per month fixed (gross).
• Ex-Servicemen in the Skilled Grade (Gunner, Fitter, Driver posts) get Rs. 32,000 per month fixed (gross).
• For retired Central Government civilian employees, pay is calculated as the last pay drawn minus basic pension, as per government rules.
• No Dearness Allowance, HRA or other allowances are paid over this fixed remuneration, though travel allowance applies for outstation duty at your last drawn rate.
• Your remuneration stays fixed through the contract period — there are no annual increments.

Selection Process

Selection will be done in the following stages:

1. Interview-cum-Practical Test: Tests your trade knowledge and hands-on skill for the post applied.
