GBPNIHE UKIHDP Project Staff Recruitment 2026: Overview

G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, is hiring a small project team at its headquarters in Kosi-Katarmal, Almora (Uttarakhand). The posts belong to the project "Climate Risk Assessment and Climate-Resilient Horticulture Planning" under the Uttarakhand Integrated Horticulture Development Project (UKIHDP).

The team will study how climate risks hit hill horticulture and help plan farming that can cope with them. All three roles are temporary, project-based engagements open only to Indian citizens. Selection is through a walk-in interview at Almora, but only candidates who have already filled the online form can attend it.

Posts and Disciplines

Post NameSubject BackgroundPlace of Posting
Project Manager (HQ 26-27-2001)Agriculture, Horticulture, Ecology or Environmental Studies (Master's or Ph.D.)GBPNIHE, Kosi-Katarmal, Almora
Research Officer (HQ 26-27-2002)Remote Sensing and GIS, Life Sciences or AgricultureGBPNIHE, Kosi-Katarmal, Almora
Field Assistant (HQ 26-27-2003)Any discipline, or field work experience in the Himalayan regionPithoragarh, Nainital and Tehri Garhwal

The Field Assistant post is the most open of the three: a graduate degree, diploma or certificate in any subject works, and so does working experience in the Himalayan region without a formal qualification.

Post-wise Duties

Project Manager

You will run the project as a whole: coordinating the team, supervising the work, putting plans into action, tracking progress and reporting to the institute. Experience in climate risk assessment, adaptation planning and stakeholder engagement is what the institute is looking for.

Research Officer

You will handle data collection, data analysis and climate-risk assessments, coordinate field work and write reports. The notice prefers people who know QGIS or ArcGIS, climate modelling and crop vulnerability assessment, or who have done socio-economic research with participatory methods and livelihood analysis.

Field Assistant

You will carry out field surveys, collect and monitor data, and coordinate with local stakeholders in the hill districts. These positions are purely field-based, so comfort with digital survey tools and with working alongside rural Himalayan communities will help you.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Temporary engagement: the institute can end the engagement at any time without giving reasons.
  • Posting liability: although the posts are tied to Almora and the three hill districts, the selected candidate is liable to be posted anywhere in India.
  • Joining: selected candidates are expected to join immediately.
  • Experience proof: experience is not counted without an experience certificate.
  • Relaxation and changes: qualification or experience rules may be relaxed for exceptionally outstanding candidates, and the institute may increase, reduce or not fill the posts.
  • Shortlisting: if many people apply, the institute can raise the minimum eligibility to limit interview calls, so list every qualification and experience above the minimum in your form.
  • No TA/DA: you travel to the interview at your own cost.
  • Canvassing: any canvassing leads to disqualification.

Application Submission Notes

Fill the form on the GBPNIHE online recruitment portal before 11:59 pm on the closing day; the institute does not accept applications any other way. After that, attend the walk-in interview at GBPNIHE, Kosi-Katarmal, Almora from 10:00 am, carrying your original education and experience documents with one set of photocopies.
