SAI Deputy Director Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sports Authority of India (SAI), the autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports that runs the country's national sports training network, wants serving government officers to join it as Deputy Director on deputation. This is not an open recruitment — only officers already working in the Central Government, a State Government or a Union Territory administration can apply, and they move to SAI for a fixed term before going back to their parent cadre. The call is handled by the Human Resources Division-II at SAI's Head Office in New Delhi.

SAI runs international-standard sports infrastructure and training centres across India with its own coaching staff, and its main goal is to prepare athletes for international competition. As a Deputy Director you sit at the Section Head level, working directly under a Divisional Head on sports administration, policy work and programme management. If you have a background in administration or finance and an interest in sport, this is a chance to apply that experience to India's athlete pipeline.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Deputation tenure: The first term is two years, and it can be stretched by one more year depending on SAI's needs and the vacancy position.
• Governing rules: The deputation follows the standard DoP&T terms under OM No. 06/08/2009-Estt (Pay-II) dated 17 June 2010, as amended from time to time.
• Place of posting: All-India — you can be sent to any SAI centre where its schemes are running, not only the New Delhi head office.
• Release by your department: Your employer has to certify that you will be relieved immediately if selected, and that no vigilance or disciplinary case is pending or planned against you.
• Language of the notice: The notice is bilingual; if the Hindi and English versions ever differ, the English version is treated as valid.

This is an offline, proper-channel application. Fill the CV proforma given as Annexure-I (the same format can be downloaded from SAI's website), prepare it in duplicate, and route it through your Cadre Controlling Authority so your employer can countersign it.

The forwarded application goes to the Office of the Director (Human Resources Division-II), Room No. 211, Sports Authority of India, Head Office, Gate No. 10 (East Gate), Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi – 110003, and must reach by 5:00 PM on the closing day.

Advance copy: You can send an advance copy straight to SAI while the forwarded application is still moving through your office. SAI will consider you only if the proper-channel application with all documents reaches it before the final selection.
