About This Job
The Office of the District Judge, Puri has released a notification for 1 Counsellor post in the Family Court, Puri. This is a contractual position where you will help resolve family disputes through counselling. You need a Master's Degree in Social Science (Sociology or Psychology preferred) and must be able to read, write, and speak Odia. District Court Puri Counsellor Recruitment 2026 — 1 Post
The Family Court in Puri, functioning under the Office of the District Judge, Puri, Odisha, has invited applications for filling 1 vacancy of Counsellor on a contractual basis. Family Courts in Odisha appoint Counsellors under the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990, to assist parties in settling matrimonial and family disputes amicably. This is a great opportunity for social science graduates with experience in family counselling or welfare activities.
Who Can Apply?
Educational Qualification
- Master's Degree in Sociology or Psychology with a minimum of 3 years of experience in family counselling
- OR Degree in Social Science (preferably Sociology or Psychology) — for candidates above 35 years of age who have been working in the field of social service or welfare activities
Language Requirement
- Must have passed a test in Odia equivalent to M.E. standard (ability to speak, read, and write Odia)
Other Conditions
- Must not have more than one spouse living
- Must be of sound health, good physique, and free from organic defects or bodily infirmity
- Must submit a declaration that no criminal case is pending
- Both male and female candidates from Odisha can apply
Age Limit
- Minimum age: 35 years (preferred for alternative qualification route)
- Age relaxation as per Government of Odisha rules:
- OBC: 3 years relaxation
- SC/ST/PwBD: 5 years relaxation
- Ex-Servicemen: 5 years relaxation
Salary
- Retainer Fee: Rs. 6,000/- per month
- Assisting Fee: Rs. 1,000/- per day of actual work
- Total monthly earning can go up to Rs. 30,000/- depending on working days
- Salary is as fixed by the State Government in consultation with the High Court of Orissa and may be revised from time to time

Responsibilities
- Assist in resolving matrimonial and family disputes through counselling sessions
- Handle cases referred by the Family Court Judge for pre-litigation mediation
- Work with both parties to explore possibilities of reconciliation and amicable settlement
- Prepare reports and submit recommendations to the Family Court after each counselling session
- Follow the guidelines laid down under the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990
- Maintain confidentiality of all case-related information and personal details of parties
- Keep records of all counselling sessions, attendance, and outcomes
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Master's Degree in Social Science (Sociology/Psychology preferred) + 3 years Family Counselling experience. Alt: Above 35 years in social service/welfare with Degree in Social Science.
