Bombay HC Associate Recruitment 2026 — 28 Posts
The Bombay High Court, one of the oldest and most respected High Courts in India, is looking to fill 28 Associate positions through direct recruitment. This is a rare opportunity to work in the judiciary at the High Court level. The post is equivalent to Civil Judge Junior Division (ACP-I) and offers excellent career growth in the legal field. The notification was issued on 8th April 2026 by the Registrar General.
Who Can Apply?
There are two categories of candidates who can apply for this post:
Category 1: Members of High Court Staff and Subordinate Judiciary Staff
- Qualification: Must have a degree in law (LL.B.) from a recognized university
- Computer Proficiency: Must have a certificate of computer proficiency from a recognized institute
- Experience: Not applicable for this category
Category 2: Practicing Advocates
- Qualification: Must have a degree in law (LL.B.) from a recognized university
- Computer Proficiency: Must have a certificate of computer proficiency from a recognized institute
- Experience: Must have 5 years of practice as an Advocate in the High Court of Judicature at Bombay or its Subordinate Courts on the date of application
Computer proficiency note: If you have passed the Computer Typing Basic Course (GCC-TBC) with English typing speed of 40 WPM conducted by Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE), you are exempted from the computer proficiency certificate.
Domicile requirement: You must be a citizen of India and domiciled in the State of Maharashtra.
Preference will be given to:
- Candidates with a minimum speed of 80 WPM in English Shorthand and 35 WPM in English typing
- Candidates who can read, write, and speak Marathi
Age Limit
- Minimum age: 21 years (for both categories)
- Maximum age (Open Category — Practicing Advocates): 38 years
- Maximum age (Reserved Category — Practicing Advocates): 43 years
- Members of High Court Staff / Subordinate Judiciary Staff: No upper age limit
- Age as on: Date of publication of the advertisement (8th April 2026)
- Age relaxation: 5 years for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, or Special Backward Class as specified by the Government of Maharashtra
Salary
- Pay Scale: Equivalent to Civil Judge Junior Division [ACP-I], Pay Level J2
- Monthly Salary: Rs. 92,960 to Rs. 1,36,520
- Allowances: Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other allowances as admissible under rules

The screening test will be held only at Mumbai.

Responsibilities
- Handle court proceedings and assist in judicial functions on the Original Side of the Bombay High Court
- Prepare and manage case files, legal documents, and court records accurately
- Assist judges with research on legal matters, case laws, and precedents
- Keep track of case schedules, hearing dates, and ensure timely filing of documents
- Work with litigants, advocates, and court staff to facilitate smooth court operations
- Follow court rules, procedures, and administrative instructions issued by the Registrar General
- Manage correspondence, orders, and judgments as directed by the court
- Assist in maintaining records related to the Bombay High Court Original Side Rules, C.P.C., and other applicable laws
