The Deogarh Forest Division, Odisha is hiring 1 Wildlife Veterinarian on a contractual basis. You will work in the Mobile Veterinary Services (MVS) Unit, providing healthcare to wild animals — especially elephants — across the division. The monthly salary is Rs. 60,000 (inclusive of TA, DA). Deogarh Forest Division Wildlife Veterinarian Recruitment 2026 — 1 Post

The Divisional Forest Officer, Deogarh Forest Division, under the Rourkela Circle of the Odisha Forest Department, has released this notification for 1 Wildlife Veterinarian to join the Mobile Veterinary Unit. The MVU was created because of growing cases of wild elephant morbidity, man-animal conflict, and the need for on-ground wildlife healthcare services. The initial engagement is for 6 months, and it can be extended based on performance and fund availability.

Educational Qualification

  • M.V.Sc (Master of Veterinary Science) — OR
  • B.V.Sc & A.H (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry)

Preference

  • Candidates with a Master's Degree and experience in Wildlife, particularly Elephant Management, will get preference
  • Wildlife Veterinarians and Retired Veterinarians with wildlife experience are also eligible

Other Requirements

  • This is a resident post — you must stay at Deogarh
  • You must be ready to handle assignments from the DFO, Deogarh, and work under Rourkela Circle as per the need
  • Wildlife Management is treated as an emergency service — you may need to work beyond regular hours

Responsibilities

  • Provide urgent and need-based healthcare services to sick and injured wild animals
  • Conduct daily surveillance and monitoring of wild animals in the forest division area
  • Handle disease outbreaks in wild animals and provide diagnostic services on the spot
  • Perform tranquilization and sedation of wild animals when required
  • Assist in rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals entering human habitation
  • Conduct preventive vaccination of livestock and poultry in forest fringe areas
  • Collect ante-mortem and post-mortem samples and deliver them to referral laboratories
  • Create public health awareness among forest fringe communities about bio-security measures

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

B.V.Sc & A.H (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry) or M.V.Sc (Master of Veterinary Science)

Preferred Qualification

Master's Degree with experience in Wildlife, particularly Elephant Management

Required Skills

Wildlife healthcare, animal rescue and rehabilitation, tranquilization, disease surveillance, sample collection and diagnosis
