CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CSIR-CIMFR), Dhanbad is hiring 30 Technician-1 Group-II posts across 11 trades. CSIR-CIMFR, a constituent laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has released Advertisement No. CIMFR-02/2026 for recruitment to 30 Technician-1 Group-II posts. CSIR-CIMFR is the country's premier coal R&D laboratory, headquartered in Dhanbad with Regional Centres in Bilaspur, Nagpur, Ranchi, Roorkee, and Raniganj. Educational Qualification (All Trades)

You must satisfy any one of the following three conditions for the relevant trade:

  • Option 1: SSC/10th Standard or equivalent with Science subjects, with minimum 55% marks, AND ITI certificate or National/State Trade Certificate in the relevant trade from a recognized institution.
  • Option 2: SSC/10th Standard with Science subjects (55% marks) AND 2 years' full-time experience as an apprentice trainee in the relevant trade from a recognized institution.
  • Option 3: SSC/10th Standard with Science subjects (55% marks) AND 3 years of work experience in the relevant trade in a Ministry/Department/Organization/PSU/Autonomous Body under Government of India/State/UT.

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Maximum age: 28 years as on the closing date of online application, i.e., 19 June 2026.

Salary

  • Pay Scale: Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 per month under Level-2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
  • Total Emoluments: Approximately Rs. 37,000 per month at the minimum of the pay scale (including HRA admissible in Dhanbad).
  • You will get usual allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) as admissible to Central Government employees.
  • Additional benefits: National Pension System (NPS), Medical reimbursement, Leave Travel Concession, Conveyance Advance, and House Building Advance as per CSIR rules.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in two stages:

  1. Trade Test: Candidates recommended by the Screening Committee will be called for a Trade Test in their respective trade. Those who qualify the Trade Test will be invited for the Written Examination.
  2. Competitive Written Examination (OMR/CBT, MCQ-based, SSC + ITI / 12th standard level, 150 questions, 2 hours 30 minutes):
    • Paper-I (Mental Ability Test, 1 hour): 50 questions, 100 marks (2 marks per correct answer). No negative marking. This paper is qualifying — minimum threshold determined by Selection Committee.
    • Paper-II (General Awareness + English Language, 30 minutes): 25 questions each section, 75 marks each (3 marks per correct answer). Negative marking: 1 mark per wrong answer.
    • Paper-III (Concerned Subject, 1 hour): 50 questions, 150 marks (3 marks per correct answer). Negative marking: 1 mark per wrong answer.

Final merit list is prepared only based on marks obtained in Paper-II and Paper-III. Medium of examination: Hindi and English (except English language section).

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain technical equipment in laboratories, workshops, and field stations
  • Carry out installation, servicing, and repair work in the respective trade (electrical, mechanical, automotive, etc.)
  • Assist scientists and engineers in research experiments and field projects
  • Maintain logs, records, and reports of work carried out
  • Follow safety protocols and laboratory standards during all operations
  • Handle tools, instruments, and machinery related to the respective trade
  • Support project teams at CIMFR Dhanbad or any of its Regional Centres in Bilaspur, Nagpur, Ranchi, Roorkee, and Raniganj
  • Carry out any other technical duties assigned by the supervising officer

Total 150 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes. Final merit is based on Paper-II and Paper-III marks only.
